Today's Mental Health Day... Orange Cat Scully, Firefighter

"It's not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself,
and to make your happiness a priority.
 It's necessary."

~Mandy Hale

Yes, I took a day off yesterday from the stupid. There has been so much stupidity that I really can't believe what I am seeing, hearing and generally living through. But here I am, back with a visit to the Purrallel Universe, to take a break from every single thing grown up  and remind myself that life actually can make sense, if done right. I did the same thing earlier in the week, when Alan and I chose the original, Minions Movie, as my choice for that evening's movie! If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it! But for now, let's see how things go for, Orange Cat Scully, as he learns to be a volunteer firefighter! Be sure to subscribe to them and if you can, drop them a tip, to support all the good folks behind this wonderful account!

And now a little music.

Ellipsis Movie Of The Week... Dirty Dancing

"Nobody puts baby in a corner."

Johnny Castle ( Patrick Swayze )
Dirty Dancing

I am pretty sure everyone on the planet has seen, Dirty Dancing, but if you haven't, it's the ultimate rom-com, which always makes me sob my eyes out. And for those reasons I won't recap the plot, I will just say, Patrick Swayze was amazing. What a performer, be it dancing, singing, or being impressive as an actor. My two favorite Swayze films are Dirty Dancing, and Too Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything, Julie Newmar. Jerry Orbach, another lost favorite actor of mine, delivers a heartbreaking turn as the perfect father, who expected perfection from his eldest daughter, Baby.

Baby: "Me? I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scare of walking out of this room, and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you."

Trivia: "Hula Hana" was co-written by actress, Julia Brucker, who played Baby's sister, Lisa Housman, and choreographer, Kenny Ortega.

Watch the movie, and just try to get the song, I've Had The Time Of My Life, out of your head!

Ellipsis Movie Of The Week... The Thin Man

"The murderer is right in this room. Sitting right at this table.
You may serve the fish."

Nick Charles
By Dashiell Hammett

I usually wait until December to watch this movie, but I was having a little fun with the AI photo editing features on my new phone, and I found myself playing with Joey's recent photos. As you see, I managed to turn him into William Powell. Well, The Thin Man, just happens to be one of my favorite films, so this week's movie of the week kinda chose itself. It also fits that we are pretty much at the half way point of the year, so if you are already longing for cold weather, delicious holiday foods, and sparkling Christmas trees, this movie fills those needs as well, and on top of delivering all that, it's an awesome murder mystery. But goodness, was there ever better banter in film, then that of Nice and Nora Charles? Even Asta, their dog, seemed to know it was true! This is also a love story. I am not giving you anything beyond that regarding the storyline, because it's great to just let it unfold.

PS... Read the book.

Honestly, Myrna Loy might just have been who I looked to for style,
had I lived in that era!

8901 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood

"Remembrance of things past, are not necessarily remembrance as things were."

~Marcel Proust

I found the black and white picture on BlueSky this past weekend, and the memories of one of my visits to Los Angeles when I was a kid, popped into my head as if I had just lived through it just a day ago! I am sure you remember me sharing about my sister, sister-in-law and I driving down the Sunset strip one night in 1970, and being amazed at all the neon lights and the glamourous people walking about. One of the neon lights I remember was from the Whisky A- Go-Go. First of all, I loved the name, and second all those cool kids standing around were, well, cool! I was around 7 years old, or so, and I had spent half my life wanting to be a hippy flower child! An idea my mother was never to keen on, but even less so after the Manson murders! LOL.

You know how it is, moms are overprotective. But somehow, she was sure Manson himself was going to escape, comeback to the Bay Area, find my sister and I and that would be it... we'd be dead. Eventually Dad convinced her that Manson would not be heading our way, and a trip to L.A. to Disneyland would be good for my sister and I. So, down HWY 5 we went. A mere 7 hours later we hit Los Angeles! We checked into the Disneyland Hotel, grabbed a quick meal, and hit the strip as the kids called it. I have no idea who was booked at the Whisky a Go-Go that night, but I love Johnny Rivers, and I found him singing one of my favorite songs on the Ed Sullivan show, so I hope you enjoy this post. It's meant to make you smile, and enjoy a look back, before we have to go forward with another week, and another month!

A Little Humor, And Truth

"God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupid been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W. Bush look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws... he would make a Trump."

~Bette Midler
Regarding her thoughts about Donald Trump

Bette has always been my hero, both for her political beliefs, and her marvelous acting. She was so funny in, Ruthless People, and didn't she break your heart in, Beaches? She's terrific! And like Bette Midler, Barbara Hershey is on earth one with the rest of us who can still think straight! I appreciate this bit of humor, in an otherwise dismal life we are all living under the Trump administration.

 Thank you, ladies!

I loved this as a kid, still do!

Ellipsis Movie Of The Week... Sea Of Love

"I live alone inside myself, like a hut within the woods;
 I keep my heart high upon a shelf, barren of other goods;
I need another's arms to reach for it and place it where it belongs
I need another's touch and smile to fill my hut with song."

Poem written by Frank Sr.'s wife, when she was in high school.

This is a pretty great mystery, although a bit predictable in places. It's a cool watch if you're looking for an old school mystery. You know, from the 1980's. Slightly noir, but mostly a great use of the amazing Al Pacino, and Ellen Barkin. Watch it. Tell me what you think. It's currently available for streaming on Peacock Premium. And listen to the Honey Drippers cover of, Sea Of Love. It's my favorite version, and one of my top 10 favorites! Of course that list probably changes daily. I love movies and music, what can I say?

I Like Birds...

"Not humans, but birds often witness the most beautiful mornings in this world."

~Mehmet Murat ildan

Saturday is going to be a really busy day, so I am posting today about some beautiful birds I found tucked away in my archived photos in my storage files. Most of the pics have never been posted before, so it feels good to share them now. Who knows why I passed them up originally?

Note: I am taking the weekend off from the posting to the blog, but I will be back on Monday with a new post, detailing all about Saturday's, No Kings Rally!

Enjoy some music while you scroll.
I heard this song in the movie, The Big Year, and fell in love with it!

Now That Everything's Been Said

"Music gives a soul to the universe,
 wings to the mind,
 flight to the imagination
 and life to everything."

~Plato

When I was a little girl, I loved the Mod Squad, and I still do to this day! I mean, how groovy were they? My neighbors lovie that show too. I can remember sitting outside, on an especially hot night in August, listening to my friend's parents discussing trivial things. Grown up trivia. But when they began talking movies and tv shows, my ears perked up! I was really curious about what they watched and why! My friend Wendy had some chic parents, at least by my reasoning as an 7 year old. Mrs. Greg lived for the Mod Squad, and she was miserable that she couldn't just survive the house to watch it. No air-conditioner, meant you toughed it out inside, or took it outside, even if it was still blistering hot at 10:00 pm! I don't why that memory is so sealed in my mind, but it is. I guess it's just one of life's mysteries, what you remember and what you don't. Anyway, years later I bought the full series on DVD for hubby, because he had never seen the show! Can you believe it? So, if you are like darling hubby and you have never seen the amazing hip coolness, of the Mod Squad, here is a particularly wonderful clip of Peggy Lipton, from 1969, singing, Now That's Everything's Been Said, by Carole King. It's truly wonderful. It's peaceful. We need that right now. I need that right now. And the nostalgic feeling and memories it brings up aren't bad either.

Rod, Macy And Robert De Niro

"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom or philosophy."

~Ludwig Von Beethoven

It's Sunday, which means it's time to just chill out a bit. This past week has seemed four years long, guess why, so I am going to let music, and Robert De Nero take me away from all the stress! Although, if I ever actually met Robert De Niro, that would be it's own stress! As you know, I don't do well in the presence of celebrities. I giggle and stare and stammer, and lets just say...it would be a mess! Why would I do that to him? He never did anything to me. LOL. Anyway, enjoy the music. And maybe join me in getting lost in a DeNiro film later. Maybe Taxi Driver, Goodfellas or perhaps, Cape Fear? Who knows?

 Do you have a favorite?

Heart Of Glass

"Where words leave off, music begins."

~Heine

I'm tired, but music gives me life. This is music from my era. Say what you want about music from the 1980's but to we who grew up in that time, it's sweet relief. I guess all generations say that. But the emotion is as timeless as the music!

Expect to see more videos, as we navigate the times we find ourselves in!

All Things Christmas Eve & Movie #24

"One Christmas eve, in my childhood, my dad asked if I wanted to leave alcohol out for Santa. I agreed, but said to only leave a little as I was afraid I would wake up on Christmas morning to see, Santa drunkenly circling over our house in his sleigh."

~Stewart Stafford

Whew! We made it! If the storm doesn't flatten my condo (see my previous post) I will lots of time to myself to bake cookies, wrap packages, watch MS NOW, and listen to some holiday music. I found something wonderful on YouTube... Hipster Holiday Party Jazz. I all stuff mid-century, I find it truly amazing! If you're not really mid-century hipster, you might still enjoy a different way of hearing the holiday classics! Anyway, I hope you enjoy the music! As for the movie I will be watching...

Enjoy!

Merry Christmas!

It's That Time Again, The Inbetween Time

Simon, Adopted July 4th, 2025

“A kitten is the delight of a household.
All day long a comedy is played out
 by an incomparable actor.”

― Champfleury,

It's August 23rd, and that means it's the anniversary of Ellipsis. I got the date wrong last year, which will tell you how much I gave a shit, but this year it means a little more to me then it did a year ago. This blog, which may seem quaint in a world of micro-blogging, serves a profound purpose to me. It is the record of not just my life, as I navigate along, but also as a continued goal to achieve. Sometimes I want to give up. Use my photoblog as my only record, but then happy things come along, and I can't wait to share them with the world. Happy times like beginning a new chapter. Well world, meet, Simon! He's my next chapter.

He was a happy turn of events, in a devastating time in life. When my beautiful Dylan passed away, I basically wondered around for a while. I pushed my feelings deep, and concentrated on my beautiful Hendrix and Joey. To my surprise, Hendrix mourned Dylan, deeply. They snuggled together all their lives, and believe me, they fought. I was caught off guard about how deeply Hendrix grieved. I watched him as he cried and searched and stopped eating. I took him to see Dr. B. who said there wasn't anything wrong with him, but his mommy knew there was, because I was feeling it too.

Hendrix lived another nine months. In June, he suddenly became ill, and finally passed away. He was just a few months shy of his 17th birthday. A long time for a cat. In his years he was 84 years old. He worked hard his whole life caring for all of us, and he was tired. I can't begrudge him that, he earned the time to move on. The last time I saw him, he was on his way downstairs to the living room, where he passed away around 6:00 am the next morning. It hasn't even been three months, and I miss him deeply. I miss his love. He loved deeply. But sometimes, if you are open to life, you will find magic along the way.

Simon came along like magic. About three weeks after Hendrix passed away, hubby and I were walking out the door, when we noticed 4 little kittens playing with the neighbors cat, who I always called, Socks. I am not sure whether or not those people ever named her. They were deeply strange people, but I will speak of that some other time. Anyway, hubby and I discussed getting a kitty at the right time, when the right time made itself known. So when we asked about the kittens, and how old they were, we found out that they were born the same week Hendrix passed away. It felt like more than luck to us, it felt like Hendrix sent us love.

And now we have a Simon, named after, Paul Simon. Or My little Butterfly, which is his first official nickname. All cats have several nicknames, according to Old Possums Book of Practical Cats.

He is a wonderful kitty. His momma cat moved away, along with the family next door, several weeks ago, so now I am the momma. He is a bright kitty, he knows his name, and he understands the words, no and bad. He's playful, especially on the curtains. YIKES. But I got him some curtains he can tear up, until he learns what is okay to play with and what isn't. He's a good little eater, and digs into Joey's food every chance he gets. He has already had his first set of big boy shots, but there are more to come. And he loves his Sesame Street friends.  Big bird was his first friend, and even at 4 weeks old, he dragged him everywhere. He purrs deeply and seems happy to be with us and Joey. In fact, they are already play friends, and the fighting is rare, but it's all about boundaries, just like humans have to learn. It's been a long time since we raised a cat, and this will be the last one we do, because we feel our age as old folks. Time marches on, whether we want to go with it, or not.

I call Simon my little butterfly, because the back of his head looks like a butterfly. When he moves his ears it looks like a gorgeous butterfly in flight. His ears are trimmed in a white, which only adds to it. He is gorgeous! So, that's the beginning of this new year of Ellipsis. Autumn is coming, as are the birds. Halloween and the deep autumn holidays. Leaves, glorious leaves, and our vacation in October, the magical month! So much to share! Hopefully we won't get Covid-19 this year, but who the hell knows. Through all of it, this blog will be here, to help me clear the head noise, and remember it all. We won't discuss Trump... for now.

Happy 23 years old, Ellipsis.  Onward.

I am back every day now. The Autumn Leaf project begins on September 22nd.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #34/Ed Sullivan And The Mamas And The Papas

“Yes, Halloween excites me. That whole time of year, autumn, I find exhilarating. A passionate season. The others are so bland. In the fall, you see opportunities for change. Real change. Possibilities present themselves. None of the renewal and redemption cliches of spring. No. Something darker and more primal and more important than that.”

Diddly Squat

“Alcoholism, as a disease that ravages the mind and body, often
 becomes intertwined with domestic violence,
 heightening its destructive impact.”

~Rove Monteux

I grew up in a house with physical and psychological abuse. Both parents did as much as possible to hurt the other. Throwing things, slamming doors, and scream fights so loud that often times neighbors called the police. Mom threatened suicide, and carried out mock attempts, and dad had affairs. But it wasn't all bad, he also provided for us. We had what we needed, and he rarely complained about working, at times overtime. Mom gave me warmest hugs ever, and taught me about animals. It was just all complicated. I am not sure when thins feel apart for my parents, but it existed throughout their marriage. It was sad.

Here, it is pretty apparent. P. Diddy is an abuser. He admits to his alcoholism. He responded to this video with a mea culpa of sorts that mostly blames his problems. I am not sure if he has quite arrived at a place of healing from his demons, and if he hasn't, he will remain a dangerous person to be around. Any woman that is in his life right now, should double think her choices. Especially in that he is also accused of other horrific crimes. He had every chance my family didn't both financially as well as access to mental health professionals. I am not sure why all this is upsetting me the way it does, I was never a fan, but I guess I just wonder why having a life of talent, of having the world in the palm of your hand, rarely leads to happiness.

It's a mystery to me.

Hi, I'm The Joe

“What's your name,' Coraline asked the cat.
 'Look, I'm Coraline. Okay?'
'Cats don't have names,' it said.
'No?' said Coraline.
'No,' said the cat. 'Now you people have names. That's because you don't know who you are. We know who we are, so we don't need names.”

~Neil Gaiman,
  Coraline

All my cats came with their names. Elvis was Elvis... right from the start. Not only did he bear a strange resemblance to Elvis Presley, but women swooned over that cat, every single time. He dripped charm! Hendrix was a cool, velvet cat, and he loved music. Mostly Steppenwolf, but mostly anything from the 1960's. He has been comfortable in his own skin, asserting himself as the alpha of the house, without being cruel about it. He is a chill 1960's kinda child. Dylan likes to sing loud, whining every morning at dawn. Every. Single. Morning! I love the little guy, and I wouldn't change him for the world, but I am usually just going to sleep at dawn! Finally, my pal Joey... my love bug. He is also just himself. He presented his name to us, the day we picked him up. He is our Joey Ramon. Cool. Quirky. Full of life and the zoomies. If you are a fan of the Ramones, you know they were quite manic when they were at their most entertaining. My Joe is a little foodie. He loves pizza and Italian food in general, but like he came from Queens, New York! It's very strange, and a lot of fun to watch him go crazy over pizza. We only give him a small taste, and never, ever pork products, but he will sit in your lap the whole time you eat the cheese and sauce. When he doesn't get more than the taste, he will stare at you eye to eye, which is an odd thing to do. Most cats try to not look you in the eye. It's instinctual. So you see, cats do actually come with names. And nicknames too for that matter, just like my boys.

Elvis... Mr. Man
Hendrix... Bubba
Dylan... Dillybean
Joey... Joey The Pez

Mostly we just call them our little babies. I know I have done a similar post like this before, but every so often they just fill my heart so completely that I have to brag on just how awesome my cats are!

Harvest Moon
By
~Neil Young

Come a little bit closerHear what I have to sayJust like children sleepin'We could dream this night away
But there's a full moon risin'Let's go dancin' in the lightWe know where the music's playin'Let's go out and feel the night
Because I'm still in love with youI want to see you dance againBecause I'm still in love with youOn this harvest moon
When we were strangersI watched you from afarWhen we were loversI loved you with all my heart
But now it's gettin' lateAnd the moon is climbin' highI want to celebrateSee it shinin' in your eye
Because I'm still in love with youI want to see you dance againBecause I'm still in love with youOn this harvest moon
Because I'm still in love with youI want to see you dance againBecause I'm still in love with youOn this harvest moon

#2 Michael Jackson - Thriller (Official 4K Video)

“It's as much fun to scare as to be scared.”

~Vincent Price

Lordy I loved being a young adult in the 1980's. I was 20 when Thriller was released in 1982. I loved it! Of course I did, it blended two of my favorite things, music and spooky stuff! And who didn't run straight to MTV in their spare time. Oh my, looking back it was all kinda simple, but oh my, we sure had fun!

ENJOY!

Thriller
By Michael Jackson

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurkin' in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes,
You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about to strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight
Yeah
Ooh

You hear the door slam and realize there's nowhere left to run
You feel the cold hand and wonder if you'll ever see the sun
You close your eyes and hope that this is just imagination, girl
But all the while you hear a creature creepin' up behind
You're outta time

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
There ain't no second chance against the thing with the forty eyes, girl
Thriller, ooh, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

Night creatures call
And the dead start to walk in their masquerade
There's no escaping the jaws of the alien this time (they're open wide)
This is the end of your life, ooh

They're out to get you, there's demons closing in on every side (ooh)
They will possess you unless you change that number on your dial
Now is the time for you and I to cuddle close together, yeah
All through the night I'll save you from the terror on the screen,
I'll make you see

That this is thriller, thriller night
'Cause I can thrill you more than any ghoul could ever dare try
Thriller, ooh, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, thriller, chiller
Thriller here tonight

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
Girl, I can thrill you more than any ghoul could ever dare try
Thriller, ooh, thriller night
So let me hold you tight and share a killer, thriller (ow)

I'm gonna thrill you tonight

[Vincent Price:]
Darkness falls across the land
The midnight hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize y'all's neighborhood
(I'm gonna thrill you tonight)
And whomsoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpse's shell

[Michael Jackson:]
I'm gonna thrill you tonight...

Thriller, ooh, babe (Thriller)
I'm gonna thrill you tonight (Thriller night)
Thriller, oh, darling (Oh, baby)
I'm gonna thrill you tonight (Thriller)
Ooh, babe (Thriller night)
I'm gonna thrill you tonight (Thriller)
Oh, darling (Oh, baby)
Thriller night, babe (Thriller night, babe)
Ooh

[Vincent Price:]
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
(Thriller night, thriller)
And grisly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
(I'm gonna thrill you tonight)
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller
