Autumn Leaf Of The Day #62

“Fall colors are funny. They’re so bright and intense and beautiful. It’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary.”

In The Sun In Autumn

“If I were a bird, I would fly about the Earth
 seeking the successive autumns.”

~George Eliot

The San Joaquin river flows right near my condo, and the Port of Stockton is right there as well. I get to hear ships in the harbor blow their horns, indicating their arrivals an departures, and it is a wonderful sound, as is the train that goes by, and the fog horns in the autumn and winter months. To my delight, I also get to hear the migrating birds say hello, while they are on their way here and there, and in the park next door, Louis Park, are several of my most beautiful autumn trees I have ever seen. I can actually see several species of birds, without going any great distance. On days like this, when I am sad, that I am brought a strong sense of relief, just by closing my eyes, and appreciating what's going right. Sweaters. Extra blankets on the bed. Hot chocolate. The sound of rain on the windows, are all a part of autumn's healing powers. Sometimes I have to remind myself of that.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #61

“It was the golden time of year. Every day the leaves grew brighter, the air sharper, the grass more brilliant. The sunsets seemed to expand and melt and stretch for hours, and the brick façades glowed pink, and everything got bluer. How many perfect autumns did a person get?”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #60

“The world know it not; but you, Autumn, I confess it:
your wind at night-fall stabs deep into my heart”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #59

“The circus looks abandoned and empty. But you think perhaps you can smell caramel wafting through the evening breeze, beneath the crisp scent of the autumn leaves.
A subtle sweetness at the edges of the cold.”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #57/58

“Autumn is as joyful and sweet as an untimely end.”
