Autumn Leaf Of The Day #69

"The torchlit garden was redolent with the colors and scents of autumn... gold and copper foliage, thick borders of roses and dahlias, flowering grasses and beds of fresh mulch that the air pleasantly pungent."

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #68

"Autumn is an interesting season, even in the metaphor of life, is a time of decline, of loss, but also intense haunting beauty. Some places, like people, never are, or has been, as beautiful in their fall."

~Luigina Sgarro

When Autumn Falls

Take no one or anything for granted.
 Love deeply.
Be gracious. Be Thankful! Grateful for your life!

"Wind warns November's done with. The blown leaves make bat-shapes, web-winged and furious.

~Sylvia Plath
The Collected Poems

Autumn is slipping away now. The trees are beginning to stir grief in me. Loss has been great this year, and the nearly barren trees remind me of Hendrix's death. He was an autumn cat, he was born at the end of September in 2008. Along with Dylan, they were our autumn cats. Hendrix was black, and Dylan was orange. Perfect. They helped in healing from Elvis's death, just a few weeks earlier. I miss Hendrix with a deep sadness that I try to not manifest because I can't live in the pain anymore! Instead, I think of how happy he made, and how loved he made me feel. I am okay, and lucky enough to still own Joey, and now, Simon and Tyler! During this season of thanksgiving, I know, I am truly blessed, but I will miss those leaves, very much. To everything, there is a season.

For After The Turkey There's ... Planes, Trains And Automobiles

"The older you get the more fragile you understand life to be.
I think that's good motivation for getting out of bed joyfully each day."

~Julia Roberts

This is an awesome holiday movie. It all centers around a simple trip home for Thanksgiving. Funny how the simplest of endeavors, can turn into our biggest nightmares. Holiday travel has all the built in elements ready to produce just that scenario. This movie will have you laughing off all the calories you consumed during Thanksgiving dinner! Directed by John Hughes, and starring Steve Martin and John Candy, it's full of heart and it will remind you of all the best parts of Thanksgiving weekend. Food, family, home, friendship, love, kindness, hope, and, of course, gratefulness.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #67... Thanksgiving Edition

"It's a beautiful Fall day. Gentle wind teases stubborn autumn leaves. Some defy the gentle wind and sway. A taunting dance. Come with me and look at the magnificence of the last dance."

~Fidelis O. Mkparu
Love's Affliction

"Life is a celebration.
Consider everything that makes you happy as gift from God and say, 'Thank you."

~Francis Lucille

Flying A Kite In Autumn

"Birds know themselves not to be at the center of anything, but at the margins of everything. The end of the map. We only live where someone's horizon sweeps someone else's We are only noticed on the edge of things: but on the edge of things, we notice much."

~Gregory Maguire
Out Of Oz

The White-tailed Kites I have seen since the September have been so beautiful, but this one mesmerized me! I found it perching on top of a pole on Staten Island. It was a difficult picture to get because of some really thick fog that rolled through the night before. I didn't give up, and here is the reward! I have several photos from that day, but this set is my favorite! I will post more photos from that day soon!

Oh To Be A Bird In Autumn

Oh to be a bird in autumn
Tucked within a rosy tree
While crisp October winds sweep by
To twine about the fallen leaves

To catch a gust and take to soaring
Out above a glistening Fall
And not to miss a single thing
Be see and hear and feel it all

~Laura Jaworski

I know I have been sharing a lot of birds lately, but with the Pacific Flyway open, they are everywhere, old friends and new friends alike. All birds are fascinating, so that makes birding more than just a past time, it is my way of life. For the next few weeks, it's all about the birds and leaves. Oh, and cooking. Thanksgiving is just a couple days away! Yike... wasn't it just Halloween?

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #64

"For as long as she could remember, she had thought that autumn air went well with books, that the two both somehow belonged with blankets, comfortable armchairs, and big cups of coffee or tea."

~Katarina Bivald

On A Wintry Autumn Day

"November... with uncanny witchery in its changed tress. With murky red sunsets flaming in smoky crimson behind the westering hills. With dear days when the austere woods were beautiful and gracious in a dignified serenity of folded hands and closed eyes... days full of a fine, pale sunshine that sifted through the late, leafless gold of the juniper trees and glimmered among the grey beeches, lighting up evergreen banks of moss and washing the colonnades of the pines. Days when an exquisite melancholy seemed to hang over the landscape and dream about the lake. But days, too, of the wild blackness of great storms, followed by dank wet streaming nights when there was a itch laughter in the pines and fitful moans among the mainland trees. What cared they? Old Tom had built his roof well, and his chimney drew."

~L.M. Montgomery

Skeleton trees are beginning to pop up all over the place, and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet! Still, as long as autumn wants to fill my life with leaves, and therefore one life affirming moment after another, I will be there to accept that gift, and let go of all the negativity and creeps into me.

And yes, maybe one day I will believe that.

In Just One Week In Autumn

"And you stand on your stoop or in your door yard at mid-afternoon and watch the cloud shadows rush across Griffin's pasture and up Schoolyard Hill, light and dark, light and dark, like the shutters of the god's being opened and closed."

~Stephen King
Salem's Lot

It's only been a week. Just one week.
And that's not counting my own daily events. It was one of those weeks that makes you turn to Stephen King, just to make it all make sense.

Here's more in pictures...

And there was so much more, including taking Simon and Tyler to be neutered and microchipped. Tyler took the long ride over the Altamont pass really well, Simon, not so much. While in his travel kennel, he cried LOUD and jumped around. He pulled at the metal screen and scared his mommy for about 50 miles of the 70 mile trip. Sigh. But he stopped all complaining when we turned on the 80's channel on Siris XM. What had been a nerve wracking trip, suddenly became a fun filled trip for the whole family. The kitties were in the pet hospital for a couple days, so naturally their mommy got so nervous that her kitties weren't with her, that she got hives! I am so stupid! But what can I say? They aren't just cats they are my babies! I am thoroughly in love with both of them, and I am trying to get photos, but kitten energy makes it tough! Oh well, it will happen. If I don't drop dead from exhaustion!

Just kidding.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #63

"Autumn is like springtime in reverse."

~Teri Guillemets

I just love those colors.
While they are definitely the colors of autumn,
there is a spring vibe too.
It's about the only time I appreciate spring for the colors.
Too bad spring displays very little of autumn.

Rude!
