Autumn Leaf Of The Day #42

I like best of all autumn, because its leaves are a little yellow, its tone mellower, its colors richer, and it is tinged a little with sorrow and a premonition of death. Its golden richness speaks not of the innocence of spring, nor of the power of summer, but of the mellowness and kindly wisdom of approaching age. It knows the limitations of life and is content. From a knowledge of those limitations and its richness of experience emerges a symphony of colors, richer than all, its green speaking of life and strength, its orange speaking of golden content and its purple of resignation and death."

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #41

"At no other time (than autumn) does the earth let itself be inhaled in one smell, the ripe earth; in a smell that is in no way inferior to the smell of the sea, bitter where it borders on taste, and more honeysweet where you feel it touching the first sounds. Containing depth within itself, darkness, something of the grave almost."

"This Is How Dictators Destroy Free Nations"

"This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death," Cheney posted Friday on X. "We cannot entrust our country and our freedom to a petty, vindictive, cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant."

~Liz Cheney

In response to the comments made to Tucker Carlson,
by Donald John Trump on October 31st, 2024

With only a few days to go, Donald Trump is spewing violent rhetoric against, Liz Cheney, and against women in general. He stated that he will "protect women whether they like it or not." Make NO MISTAKE, those are the words of a man who feels like he has control over women in all aspects. Trump is a violent man, a man who was found guilty of sexual abuse. Remember the Access Hollywood tape?No man with that in their past, should be never allowed anywhere near the presidency of the United States, but here we are. Fortunately, the Attorney General of the state of Arizona is investigating his comments about Liz Cheney, and it seems he may have just added yet another felony to his long rap sheet! Please talk to your daughters and granddaughters, nieces, and friends about who should be elected to the presidency. What their character should be. About talk about trust issues and ask them to think long and hard about what they want their future rights to be.

"When people show you who they are, believe them."

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #40/October 31st Done The Right Way

"Haunt an old house.
Ask for a treat.
Laugh like a witch.
Lick something sweet.
Offer a trick.
Wander a maze.
Echo a boo.
Exclaim the phrase—
Normal's unnatural on Halloween!”

~Richelle E. Goodrich
& a Little Poetry for Every Day of the Year

This isn't really a Halloween post, but it is Halloween and so I just had to pay tribute in some way. I love this poem. It's cleaver. It's also a nice departure from the real world stuff. Donald Trump feels like Michael Myers sometimes. He gets people killed, and terrifies the rest of us. But for this day, I choose to have a happy day, as it is meant to be enjoyed. So, I will enjoy the leaves, enjoy the candy, enjoy the costumes, enjoy the horror movies and take a deep cleansing breath.

Please enjoy me in letting go for one day, and renew!

And by the way, remember these wise words...

 "You know it's Halloween,
I guess everyone's entitled to one good scare."

Police Chief, Brackett

Happy Halloween, Enjoy The Movie

 “HALLOWE'EN"

Pixie, kobold, elf, and sprite
All are on their rounds to-night,-
In the wan moon's silver ray
Thrives their helter-skelter play.

Fond of cellar, barn,or stack,
True unto the almanac,
They present to credulous eyes
Strange hobgoblin mysteries.

Cabbage-stomps-straws wet with dew-
Apple-skins, and chestnuts too,
And a mirror for some lass,
Show what wonders come to pass.

Doors they move, and gates they hide,
Mischiefs that on moon-beams ride
Are their deeds, and, by their spells,
Love records its oracles.

Don't we all, of long ago,
By the ruddy fireplace glow,
In the kitchen and the hall,
Those queer, coofllke pranks recall?

Eery shadows were they then-
But to-night they come again;
Were we once more but sixteen,
Precious would be Halloween."

~Joel Benton

Here is a really good movie from 1972, The People. It's not super scary, but rather a flight of fancy, and it's one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween. The Executive Producer of the film is Francis Ford Coppola, and it was filmed about 40 miles or so from Bodega Bay, near the town of Nicasio. It's hosted on Creature Features, so there's that bit of fun. I found it quite eerie when I was 10 years old, now I just feel a deep fondness, and nostalgia for it. Enjoy!

Original air date was, January 22nd 1974
ABC TV.

Autumn Leaf of The Day #39

“There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir: We must rise and follow her, When from every hill of flame She calls, and calls each vagabond by name.”

~William Bliss

The Promise From The Ellipse

“But when you can’t sleep at night, how can you dream?”

 Kamala Harris,

75 thousand people showed up to the Ellipse, and the National Mall to hear the closing statement by Kamala Harris. And she rocked it! She was determined, straight forward, optimistic, dynamic and more than anything, not insulting to the very people who support her! I feel encouraged after her speech. The vibe lifted my spirits. If you didn't watch it, please do now. It's worth watching, especially if you haven't quite made up your mind. We are standing at the crossroads of freedom and a dictatorship. I choose freedom. How about you?

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #38

"Autumn dresses up in gold, the richest season."

~Angie Weiland Crosby

Our Future, Our Fate

"There is no season when such sunny and pleasant spots,
may be lighted on and produce so pleasant effect
on the feelings as now in October.

~Nathanial Hawthorne

I want to think about autumn, but things like this keeps happening...

Trump's campaign is trying to throw this "comedian" under the bus, by saying his "humor" does not align with their values, but they vetted him, and they loaded his jokes into the teleprompter, so once again, as far as Trump's little MAGAt posse goes, Trump gets a pass. He had nothing to do with the grotesque jokes made by the comic, and we should all just ignore the fact that each of his surrogates said pretty much everything Trump said was in the same vein as the vileness this guy spewed. It was one racist, misogynistic, lie after another. So make NO MISTAKE, that rally Trump held at Madison Square Garden was a political NAZI rally, not an American political campaign event. They are now saying the quiet part out loud. Nazism is running for president, and it's hidden in a cult of personality. So how do I get in touch with the autumn inside me, when this might be the last free election we spend as Americans.

One week from today will decide our future. Our fate.

Autumn Lead Of The Day #37

“For these beings, fall is ever the normal season, the only weather, there be no choice beyond. Where do they come from? The dust. Where do they go? The grave. Does blood stir their veins? No: the night wind. What ticks in their head? The worm. What speaks from their mouth? The toad. What sees from their eye? The snake. What hears with their ear? The abyss between the stars. They sift the human storm for souls, eat flesh of reason, fill tombs with sinners. They frenzy forth....Such are the autumn people.”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #36/Help Me Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

 “I love the Autumn,
And yet I cannot say
All the thoughts and things
That make me feel this way.

I love walking on the angry shore,
To watch the angry sea;
Where summer people were before,
But now there's only me.

I love wood fires at night
That have a ruddy glow.
I stare at the flames
And think of long ago.

I love the feeling down inside me
That says to run away
To come and be a gypsy
And laugh the gypsy way.

The tangy taste of apples,
The snowy mist at morn,
The wanderlust inside you
When you hear the huntsman's horn.

Nostalgia - that's the Autumn,
Dreaming through September
Just a million lovely things
I always will remember.”

~Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis

With a little bit more than a week to go, until the election, I am a nervous wreck. My final order from the Harris/Walz store hasn't arrived yet. It's a Kamala Harris poster, and a set of "Ka-Ma-La" campaign buttons. I am hoping it will get here soon, so that I can put it in a frame on the wall. I waited on putting Hillary's poster up, and I was really sad on election night that I hadn't. It was at least a couple years before I finally did add it to my office. And then we had to move, and well, shit happens. We finally put the poster in our upstairs hallway, and now I can see here from my office. I am hoping to put the poster that's coming, next to Hillary, in the hallway, but I might also bring both of them into my office, after the election. We will see how thing go. Anyway... I need strength. And I need my Kamala Harris poster.

Autumn, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, help me.
