Autumn Leaf Of The Day #82

“Autumn"

Again the wind
flakes gold-leaf from the trees
and the painting darkens—
as if a thousand penitents
kissed an icon
till it thinned
back to bare wood,
without diminishment."

~Sara Addison Allen

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #81

“Perhaps the most important lesson I have learned is to embrace the small pleasures and turn them into lasting memories.”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #80

“In the autumn, the entire backyard became a mass of lollipop-yellow leaves, so bright they lit up the night like daylight. Birds nesting in the trees would get confused because they couldn't tell what time of day it was, and they would stay awake for days until they dropped out of the branches with exhaustion.”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #79

“Autumn...the grace in letting dead things fall.”

~Darnell Lamont Walkermont Walker

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #78

“That is the way the leaves fall round an autumn  tree; it is unaware of it, rain runs down it, it is subjected to sun or frost and life slowly retreats. It does not die. It waits.”

~Hermann Hesse,

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #77

 “Nature is an alchemist,
gathering the last of summer’s green
and turning it to gold.”

~Laura Jaworski

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #75 And #76

 “Autumn burned
Deep red and amber,
An inferno of intense
Terrifying beauty,
Devouring feverishly
Everything in
Her path.”

~L.S.

Okay, so life gets busy. I'll share about that in the next couple days. I have some good reasons, it is the holiday season after all. Anyway, here are the two leaves I owe my Ellipsis, with more to come. Something beautiful to look forward to, as autumn kisses the earth goodnight for another year. I am already grieving it, as I do every year about this time. But autumn doesn't ever go quietly. Look at the vibrancy of a life well lived!

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #74

“Enchantment and fulfillment were on the gold and garnet horizon - autumn's breath, a dormant dream reawakened, a yearning nearly satiated, a tender thank you with a brush of the lips, and a connection as fingers touch and go hand in hand.”

~Donna Lynn Hope

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #71

The Passing
 by Stewart Stafford

In the gorgeous death of Autumn,
Tree-bowed alms for the wind,
Sacrificing eye-catching features,
Now primed for Winter, skinned.

Organic shaded palaces looted,
Shells of once-shimmering things,
Shorn of their prettified plumage,
Until born again the following Spring.

Everything is recycled in Nature,
Dead leaves compost the soil,
Turning wheel of rampant Summer,
No memories in the humid broil.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #70

“It was the best time of the year. Frost at night and warm, sunny days, when the yellows and oranges of the aspen and cottonwoods did something to the blue of the sky behind them that an artist might never mimic.”

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #65

“I’m just here for the autumn leaves and cozy sweaters.”

 ~Unknown

Sometimes I think that's why I am here on earth. To save in time, through photography, 90 or so autumn leaves. But I do enjoy everything about autumn, the migrating birds, the cozy sweaters, the holiday food and drinks and the comfy warm blankets. It's a whole life, lived in just about three months, although I start a little early, and leave a little late. And there's nothing wrong with that.

How can it already be November 25th?

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #64

“The Sussex lanes were very lovely in the autumn . . . spendthrift gold and glory of the year-end . . . earth scents and the sky winds and all the magic of the countryside which is ordained for the healing of the soul.”

~Monica Baldwin,

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #62

“Fall colors are funny. They’re so bright and intense and beautiful. It’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate you so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary.”

 ~Siobhan Vivian

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #61

“It was the golden time of year. Every day the leaves grew brighter, the air sharper, the grass more brilliant. The sunsets seemed to expand and melt and stretch for hours, and the brick façades glowed pink, and everything got bluer. How many perfect autumns did a person get?”

~Elif Batuman,
