Ellipsis Weekend Cooking... Spider Bread

It's Always Autumn blog

Spider Bread Dip Bowl - It's Always Autumn - Recipe

"October proved a riot, a riot of the senses
and climaxed those giddy last weeks before Halloween."

~Keith Donohoe

How fun is that? A spider shaped bread, with yummy dip in the middle! I wish I had tried this at some point, but all I did when I was making bread shapes was turtles and teddy bears, so I am looking forward to making this! I don't really have anyone over for Halloween, I am usually out watching people, or I am home ready to hand out candy, so this spider might make an appearance as a football game day appetizer. It's all good, right? This recipe uses frozen bread dough, which is perfectly wonderful, but I like putting my bread maker to work, by making my own dough that I can customize. Again, it's all good! Scary... but good. There was a day when I couldn't get near ANYTHING that was spider shaped, but as an autumn leaf peeper, you learn to deal with it!

Don't forget the dip!

Ellipsis Movie Of The Week... Arachnophobia

"It's spider season. Every year, right about now, thousands of the godless eight-legged bastards emerge from the bowels of hell (or the garden, whichever nearest) with the sole intention of tormenting humankind."

~Charlie Brooker

Are you afraid of spiders? YIKES... I am! It's called, Arachnophobia! I know they are good for the planet, and I have been bitten by more of the other creatures roaming around, but damn, it's a lifelong fear and I just haven't ever been able to move on from it! I have no idea when it began, but there it is, so let me tell you, it took a lot for me to watch this movie, for more reason than one. You see, Arachnophobia was filmed in the small coastal hamlet of Cambria, California, one of my favorite places on earth! The town is kinda famous with the coastal dwellers, for being the home of many a spider, especially the jumping spider! Finding that out made me hypervigilant about who was joining me on my tuffet! I haven't visited Cambria in years, not because of the spiders, mostly it was a matter of time, or finances, or the fact that we moved to Stockton, but I know if I am ever lucky enough to visit there again one day, I will be on watch, but so very happy to be there! Anyway, watch the movie. It's a bit creepy crawly, but it shows off the very best of Cambria, it has heart, and there are some genuinely funny moments that will remind you that phobias are, for the most part, big fat creepy liars! Personally, I think it's one of the best movies of the 90's, at least for the horror movie genre. So go have some fun!

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #21

"Autumn questions: Does an autumn leaf have a dream? Does she want to return to her green tree again? Does she want to drift into the wind and travel the world? Or does she want to meet other dead leaves. Maybe she just wants to get into the frame of a photo, and become immortal."

~Mehmet Murat ildan

Autumn Leaves Of The Day #19 And #20

"Fallen leaves of gold,
they quietly wither,
Only a touch of comfort remains in the branches."

~Sir Kristian Goldmund Aumann

The leaf you see above is a repeat. Well, I should say, it's not a repeat from this year, it's a repeat from a previous year, which is being used as a placeholder, for a leaf that I will replace it with soon. You see, there aren't many leaves to be found that aren't the same as I have already posted, or hopelessly withered on the ground, torn to pieces. It has been a dry, hot year, so unfortunately it might be a lot further into autumn, before I find any real color. I am not worried. I know I will find some in Sacramento, and some in the East Bay, it's just a matter of time until I get there. Until then, today's leaf is new, but Saturday's wasn't. I don't know, perhaps it's time to hang up this project, we'll see.

Today's Autumn Leaf...

I know there's more to come.
