Autumn Leaf Of The Day #52

Gathering Leaves

Spades that up leaves
No better that spoons
And bags a full of leaves
Are light as balloons.

I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like a rabbit and deer
Running away.

Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed
And what have I then

Next to nothing for weight
And since they grew duller
From contact with earth
Next to nothing for color.

Next to see for use
But a crop is crop
And who's to say where
The harvest shall stop?

Life With The Car And The Placard

“I'm used to functioning in pain, asshole. Are you?”

~Rebecca Yarros

“I love the days when my body cooperates.”

~Rebecca Yarros,

I reported this driver. I don't usually, it was not about getting the driver in trouble, but it was rather to maybe encourage some training and encourage a little less thoughtlessness. It doesn't make a bit of difference how long this truck was there, I was made to walk around the truck, which on that day was a painful venture. I needed that ramp. We might be in spring now, but the wind brings chill from snow in the Sierra's and that chill is like a knife going through my body. It seems I need a little more help then I used to, and that help is a blue placard. Oh well, at least plenty of folks still care about it, you'd laugh if you knew how many times I have been yelled at, after I have forgotten to affix my placard to my mirror! At least I always have it with me, and it's a quick correction, as it's always in my purse! Unfortunately, my memory is usually residing in my make-up bag! I forgot to take a photo for this post, of course I did!

One Post + Autumn Leaf Of The Day #75

Rebellious leaves
going out
in a blaze of glory,
setting trees aflame
in riotous color.
Reluctant surrender
to rumors
of coming winter.

~John Mark Green,

Yard Tree
December 4th 2023

This is only the second leaf I have posted from the tree in the front yard. Right now it is a stunning color of orange. I am truing to find out what it is, but it isn't easy to track down leaves. I think I will try posting a photo on X and see if someone can ID it. The closest I have gotten so far is a Sugar Maple, but I thought those were red. This one moves from green to variegated colors and then ultimately deep orange/red. I will update if I get an answer.

This is my only post for today, I am having trouble with my hip and sciatic nerve. The pain is going from my hip, all the way down to my foot. So stupid. But I figure it will get better with some rest, a heating pad and maybe a Salonpas patch. Hey, age is what it is. Its just that in my mind I am 28, by body is about 75. How is it I can hear a Madonna song, and instantly feel 30 years younger, but not have my physical body follow? I guess I should ask my beautiful autumn yard tree. Can you believe that these leave, came from that tree? It's just magic!

Season Of Mist And Mellow Fruitfullness

“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.”

~John Keats,

How many times can I say... ooh...awww... when it comes to Autumn? Well, as it turns out, every single day I leave the house! If you dig Autumn, all others I apologize profusely!

Enjoy!

Autumn Of Life

"Falling autumn leaves gave air an amber hue
as thought seen through a jar of honey."

~Paula Wall
The Rock Orchard

The last couple years, or so, I have been photographing the not so perfect leaves I come across, as well as the stunning, newly fallen ones. The older, decaying ones lived an honest life too, right? Well, why shouldn't the have their day of recognition for having lived and life of harvest beauty, just because I hadn't arrived in time to see them in their full color beauty? They seem like a wise old friend to me now. Someone who had lead a life, and had stories to tell. I don't know, maybe it's because I am sailing off into my own season of autumn, and the honest feeling of wanting to still be recognized for the colors of me I can share. How did the middle of autumn come so fast? And how will it leave me this year? It all remains to be seen I suppose, I don't want to write that book before it's time. I just want to dance in my leaves and plan next autumn, and pray I will be lucky enjoy to put my dancing shoes on again!

Breakfast In America

"I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast any time"
so I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.
~Steven Wright

I had a Monday yesterday, I went to have my yearly blood work to see if I my in-nerds are still working properly. I have some of the tests back, and yes, in fact I rocked a couple of them. But I am still waiting on the ones that make my doctor raise a disapproving eyebrow from time to time. My Hemoglobin A1C.

In my travels with diabetes, I have learned a lot about what makes my numbers go off the rails. Oddly enough it isn't just sugar that makes my numbers go wacky... stress is a big factor as well! I need to stop stressing over stupid stuff... cough... Sarah Palin.
Somehow, my doctor never believes me when I say it's all Sarah Palin's fault.
Odd.
