 Once in a while I get lucky, and a truly fabulous film from my childhood becomes available, and this is one of those movies folks! I love to share movies that stood out for me as a kid, to share a bit more about myself, and let me tell you, this movie left an impression! The, Girl Most Likely Too...,,  was originally featured on the, ABC Movie Of The Week, in 1973, and it still holds up to all the elements that made it a great film, all the way back then! Stockard Channing and Ed Asner lead the cast, with a few familiar faces from back in the day like, Annette O'Toole, Larry Wilcox, Dennis Dugan and Fred Grandy!

 I had already loved Ed Answer for years, but this movie made me a Stockard Channing fan for life! It's a great movie if you've ever contemplated seeking revenge on someone, and while I know the whole revenge thing is getting pretty old right about now, this movie manages all the ironic humor it can find, while reminding us to not take it all too seriously! It delivers all the luscious guilty pleasure as good as any beach read! My inner psycho applauded this film when I was 11 years old, and I never forgot it. Today, I could live vicariously through it, and be quite happy!

As you probably know by know, when I was a kid I was an avid viewer of, The Movie of the Week, which aired on ABC. I couldn't wait to find out what genre of movie was next. I guess you could say I became quite the cinephile at a really young age. Like maybe 5 or so. Like with reading, when life was a little to much, I could climb into another story for a couple hours and it was comforting. Well, because of budgeting factors and ratings, all the networks pulled the plug on the movies, in favor of scripted television. Dallas, Falcon Crest, Three's Company, Charlie's Angels... which by the way... aired their pilot on the ABC Movie of the week. Ironic, right? Anyway, why do I have miss it? So, here's a new feature of my blog, The Ellipsis Movie of the Week!

I really need an escape, so lets begin with some comedy, shall we?

Lets begin with a funny little movie from 1990, Madhouse. Jessie and Mark have bought their first house, and are barely settled in, when out of the blue family, and their slightly grumpy cat, visits. What could go wrong? Everything to a hilarious degree. This movie received mixed reviews on IMBD, but personally, it always makes me laugh. I need that right now, and I am betting you do too. It Happened One Christmas

Here I go again, referencing an ABC Movie of The Week movie, but what can I say, ABC had wonderful movies, and I looked forward to every one of them. This was, as you might expect, one of my favorites, despite that it's pretty much simply a retelling of, It's A Wonderful Life. Or is it? It Happened One Christmas, is a woman's perspective of the tale, which really does make for a different story. Mary Baily yearns to experience life beyond the small time she grew up in, but when tragedy strikes she finds she must sacrifice her own needs, for the needs of her family, and her town. Thank goodness love endures throughout Mary's life, especially during the darkest of times. Finally, by fighting through the things we all take for granted, she receives redemption as a gift from all who love her. As always, it seems that we really learn how much we are loved until we are at our lowest, and offer to lift us up, without agenda or judgement. If you haven't seen it, watch it. Trust me on this, it demonstrates what is really right about Christmas, and teaches the lesson of not giving up, on ourselves and each other!  Here is a really good movie from 1972, The People. It's not super scary, but rather a flight of fancy, and it's one of my favorite movies to watch around Halloween. The Executive Producer of the film is Francis Ford Coppola, and it was filmed about 40 miles or so from Bodega Bay, near the town of Nicasio. It's hosted on Creature Features, so there's that bit of fun. I found it quite eerie when I was 10 years old, now I just feel a deep fondness, and nostalgia for it. Enjoy!
