Bye Bye, Baby

Read the New York Times article here.

"Some people aren't loyal to you. They are loyal to their need of you.
Once their needs change, so does their loyalty."

~Unknown

Donald Trump is loyal to no one. He always has put himself on a golden throne, as he is a king in his own mind. While folks have sat back and laughed and smirked at the at the way Trump has treated people over the years, both the loyal and disloyal alike, they never imagine that one day Trump will chew them up, and spit them out, despite of their being a long history of just that. In the last few days, Trump has thrown two Department of Justice figures under the bus, Todd Blanche and Jeannie Pirro. Both are about to see their careers ruined, and the very real possibility of at least one of them will being disbarred. Everything Trump touches dies, and right now the careers of anyone in his orbit and in particularly the ones who tell the truth or refuse to do his bidding will be the next to go.

Are numbers, letters now?

Fuck it!

So, who gets fired first?
Who will quit first?

I predict Pirro will be gone by the end of the week, but there will be quite the mean tweeting between now and then. I'll get back to you.

The Cold Hard Truth

"You start with a darkness to move through,
but sometimes the darkness moves through you."

~Dean Young

True Story...

One time, way back in the late 80's, I dated a man who wasn't right for me, but I was head over heals in love, or so I thought, so nothing was going to sway me. He was a minister, and a republican, and I thought we could face it all, and still be true to ourselves. OH. MY. GOD. How naive was that? My father, the great progressive that he was, told me, "you'll change your mind about him" and sure enough, Dad was right! It only took the guy's mother, deliberately giving me, and everyone else at the dinner, including my future husband, Alan, food poisoning, to make me wise up!

I felt so much better when I finished purging, not just the under-cooked turkey dinner she made us, but the man as well. See, his mother would poison every girl who dated her little boy, just to find out who had the "strength" to conquer adversity. The lady he finally married told me, that she had been poisoned as well, with some bad clam chowder his mother served her, but she married him anyway, because, as it turns out, she was strong enough to deal with not just the motherly stress test, but she was a republican, and she understood what kind of strength it took to be the wife of a minister!

How could dad have been so right? How did dad know that guy wasn't right for me? In any case his family wasn't right for me, and his being a republican, really wasn't going to be right for me! And all it took for me to see the light, was 24 hours of vomiting, and finally realizing my dad had been right all along! It was a hell of a thing to have to admit to, but I wouldn't change the circumstances for anything! It was the cold, hard truth, that I probably knew all along, deep down, that I needed to deal with! Dad was very good about buying me all the ginger ale I needed and not laughing out loud at me, when I admitted to him, that he was right.

Alan and I began dating 3 months later, and we were married about 2 years after that! Here we are, after 27 years of marriage, and we are not only still in love, but we exchange love texts several times a day! I married the right man! And in our 27 years of marriage, not only has his mother never given me food poisoning, but she understood when Alan saw the light, and became a progressive! I wonder if dad saw that coming too? He was very happy when he found out we were getting married, so I still wonder if he knew Alan and I were in love before we did! Unfortunately, I never asked him, but somehow I think he did.

All those memories came back to me the other day, when I saw this funny little snow machine, at the Sacramento Holiday Ice Rink. It's funny how it all became a cherished memory. You wouldn't think that it be something one would want to ever think about again, but that is one of my best memories of my dad. That was when I learned my dad was pretty damned smart, and he had a wonderful sense of humor, especially when he was going through a difficult time. So I think he would have loved this little snow machine, as much as I did, because he probably has a memory of a time when his father had been 100% right about a particular life experience too! I just hope dad's memory didn't involve 24 hours of vomiting to come to his senses!

The Consequence Of Your Illusions

"The consequence of your illusions is your reality."

~Steven Redhead
Life Is Simply A Game

I didn't realize, when I photographed this red crayon, that it cast a bit of an illusion. It seems to be floating! It isn't of course, but it's sort of fun, so I thought I would post it here as a metaphor for the national election we all just experienced!

Donald Trump, and his campaign, has just as much as admitted that they didn't think he would win on election night... then he did! Now what? Well, if you have been paying attention, it seems the transition is, well, unorganized at best, in total chaos more than likely!

I don't know for sure how I would feel if I were a Trump supporter, and I found out that he had such little faith in his own campaign that not only did he think he would lose, but that he hadn't even considered how his transition would work. It seems like something that would be at least sketched out after the nomination was clinched. At least in some basic way. But they didn't! So...

Surprise!
You are now the leader of the free world!
 Shit just got real!

What promises did you make to your supporters, that you now need to keep? Are you going to lock up Hillary Clinton? Are you going to go after ISIS on your first day in office and completely stamp them out? Are you going to completely repeal the Affordable Care Act? Donald Trump said he would do a lot of things, but it doesn't seem likely he will do any of them. Actually, I take that back somewhat. He will futz around with the tax code, mostly to his benefit, but as for infrastructure... forget about it! Job creation cannot be guaranteed, and neither can building that wall.

I wonder what it will feel like, to be a Trump supporter, a year from now? Will they be happy with what the new president manages to accomplish? Will they have a strong sense of buyers remorse? Who knows? Right now they are still on the childlike or childish high of watching the red crayon float just above the table! It's all an illusion, and deep down they knows that's true, but sometimes folks just want to be lied to, and in that I feel bad for them! I really do! Nothing hurts worse that finding out you have been played for a fool, and deep down you knew it, but you just couldn't bring yourself turn away from the lie.

The fact that one day Trump supporters realize that they have been sold an illusion, a lie, is small comfort. It's no comfort all really. When the truth becomes painfully aware to all, it will already be too late. Trump is completely unqualified for the presidency, and therefore he will make big mistakes. Mistakes with consequences. Deadly ones I fear. And it will be too late for "I'm sorry" and "I told you so." It will be too late. Too late.

Just focus on the floating red crayon, and get lost in the illusion.

Does The Truth Set You Free?

"Whether you live to be 50 or 100 makes no difference, if you made no difference in the world."

~Jarod Kintz, Great Listener Series Mute Women

BradleyManning.org

I spotted this poster in the Haight last week. I couldn't believe how effective it was at provoking my feelings of sympathy for Mr. Manning, as if I didn't already have a world of sympathy for him. I don't approve of how he has been treated by his own government. Yes, he is a whistle blower... a teller of truths... and what did he get for it? Certainly not a timely due process. Certainly not as much support from the general public as I would have expected. But that's the thing about the truth, along with the clear conscience, comes the responsibility, and the fact that some folks would just rather be lied to, as opposed to knowing the naked truth.

Quotes About Truth From Folks Smarter Than Me...

"Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood."
~George Orwell, 1984

"The truth will set you free. But not until it is finished with you."
~David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest

"There's a world of difference between truth and facts. Facts can obscure truth."
~Maya Angelou

"Never tell the truth to people who are not worthy of it."
~Mark Twain

"The truth is rarely pure and never simple."
~Oscar Wilde, The Importance Of Being Ernest

"Me occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened."
~Winston Churchill

"I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I'm a human being, first and foremost, and as such I'm for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole."
~Malcolm X
