Ellipsis Movie Of The Week... Dick

Betsey Jobs: Are you the president's dog trainer?
John Dean: I am, Chief White House Council.
Betsey Jobs: Oh. That's too bad.

Who was the mysterious, Deep Throat? Well, now we all know it was, Mark Felt, former, Deputy Associate Director of the FBI, but in 1973, things were a little bit more, well, mysterious! We didn't even know when this funny, what-if, movie came out, who, Deep Throat, was. We didn't learn his identity until much later, when Felt revealed himself to be the source of Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's Washington Post articles exposing the crimes of the Nixon White administration. Watergate was quite the smear on American politics, Nixon betrayed the trust of American's who supported him. It took a long time for some to recover from it. Fast forward and here were are! The Nixon era makes current American politics seem... quaint. But perhaps one day we will all laugh about the times we are currently living in. Time does heal all wounds, and it also wounds all heels, so there's that. I hope so, and watching comedies that bring what was possible, into what could be, works for me! I love funny movies about politics, but this movie is more than funny, it's got heart, and you'll feel patriotic just watching it! Well, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but you'll cheer for Betsey and Arlean, and doesn't that feel good?

This movie comes with a pretty delicious recipe for, Hello Dolly bars, also known as, 7 Layer bars or Magic Cookie bars. Here is the recipe, minus the little extra "magic" provided by Betsey's brother, Larry. Although I like Larry's variation too!

Hello Dolly Bars
Searched and sourced from AI Assistant

1/2 cup ( 1 stick ) of butter, melted
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cups chopped walnuts or pecans
1 cups sweetened flaked coconut
1 14oz can Sweetened condensed milk

Set oven to 350 degrees.
Put the butter inside your 13x9 inch baking pan,
and let melt in the oven or microwave.
Mix the graham crackers and press into the melted butter to form a base.
Sprinkle the Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped nuts,
and coconut evenly over the crust layer.
Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk over the top layers,
so it sinks into the layers.

Bake for 25 - 30 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
Cool completely before cutting into squares.

Note:
You can substitute chopped dried fruit such as apricots or cherries, for the coconut.

And now, a little music from the era... some of my very favorite songs from the early 1970's.

Redbone
Come And Get Your Love

The Love Unlimited Orchestra
Love's Theme

Carly Simon
You're So Vain

Bye Bye, Baby

Read the New York Times article here.

"Some people aren't loyal to you. They are loyal to their need of you.
Once their needs change, so does their loyalty."

~Unknown

Donald Trump is loyal to no one. He always has put himself on a golden throne, as he is a king in his own mind. While folks have sat back and laughed and smirked at the at the way Trump has treated people over the years, both the loyal and disloyal alike, they never imagine that one day Trump will chew them up, and spit them out, despite of their being a long history of just that. In the last few days, Trump has thrown two Department of Justice figures under the bus, Todd Blanche and Jeannie Pirro. Both are about to see their careers ruined, and the very real possibility of at least one of them will being disbarred. Everything Trump touches dies, and right now the careers of anyone in his orbit and in particularly the ones who tell the truth or refuse to do his bidding will be the next to go.

Are numbers, letters now?

Fuck it!

So, who gets fired first?
Who will quit first?

I predict Pirro will be gone by the end of the week, but there will be quite the mean tweeting between now and then. I'll get back to you.

The Teacher Of The Month

"If you're at the end of your rope... untie the knot in your heart."

~Cooper Edens

If You're Afraid Of The Dark,
Remember The Night Rainbow/Add One More Star To The Night

Okay, so it happened again. Someone tried to assassinate Trump. Again. For the third time to be exact. History will fill in the details. Was it real? Was it fake? There are reasons to believe both! I am not a conspiracy theorist, but there are oddities to this one. Ugh, I don't even want to discus my doubts because it's all so strange, but then w are talking about an event around Trump, so of course it's strange. It would be strange if it wasn't strange. All I know is, watching it all unfold live on, MS Now, was... strange. One minute hubby and I were discussing what we would serve at the dinner, if we were the caterers, the next minute men were climbing across chairs, and folks were ducking. Strange. Wanna know something else strange? The apparent bad guy was named Teacher of the Month, in December 2024. Before Trump took office for the second time.

I am not giving any passes there is, NO ROOM FOR POLITICAL VIOLENCE, but the last year and a half has seemed more like 5 years, than 18 months. It hasn't been an easy time to take. So much bad, in so little time, so I understand the desperate frustration, but for our own mental health we have to find things for ourselves, for self care. I get a lot of help from turning off the TV, after, Deadline White House... with Nicolle Wallace, and I nap for a couple hours. I have anemia, left over from my last bout with Covid-XEC, so I need a little extra rest anyway. You don't have to nap, but turning off the TV is mandatory. Believe it or not, essential oils, help. I keep a small bottle, on my desk, of cinnamon oil. I take a little sniff, when I start to fell stressed, and it brings calmness and serenity to my soul. That's my favorite scent, yours is probably different, but you get the point. Lavender is pretty good too! And if all else fails, find yourself a good therapist!

Donald Trump is not worth it! Truly he isn't.
Remember, you love pizza more than you hate Trump!

Losing your whole life, by going to prison for life, isn't necessary, when we have so much to be hopeful about. We just need to concentrate on seeing those things, more than what sits in the darkness. The midterms are right around the corner!

Anyway, here are a few scenes from the other night.

The ever loving RFK jr., and his wife, Cheryl Hines

The super creepy, ever loving, big boob Stephen Miller and Wife

The TEACHER OF THE MONTH

Trump want's to reschedule the event for sometime in the next 30 days, we'll see if he can pull that off. It costs money to produce these things, but the again, when did he ever worry about spending other peoples money? Also, there are schedules to be considered, both personally and professionally. I imagine some new evening gowns must be purchased, as we ladies don't like wearing the same gowns to a rescheduled rubber chicken event, especially after a gunman scares the ever loving boredom out of us! There is a whole lot to consider. As for me, if the WHCD does get another chance, I will probably tune in. I will be wearing my comfy leggings, my long soft shirt and my slippers, and I will have my Bingo card ready to go!

Listen To The Reviews

"Here we go again!"

~Melania Trump
Melania

Yes, Melania, here we go again. Only its all worse this time."

This is not my usual lighthearted movie suggestion. No. This is a review and suggestion by the professional reviewers. Apparently this $75 million film is exactly what it seemed to be, a shallow, thoughtless, self promoting poser of an out of touch first lady. But if you enjoy fashion, that most folks can never afford to purchase, especially in this time, then this movie is for you!

As for me, I don't like nor respect her. So, it's a hard pass for me!

But here is a trailer for you.

Breaking News... Republicans Are Fucking Nuts!

“Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new
evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is
extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it
is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize,
ignore and even deny anything that doesn't fit in with the core belief.”

Hey! Stuff A Sock In It Buddy!

Here We Go Again

"Mr. Trump’s free speech rights do not permit him
to launch a pretrial smear campaign.”

~ Judge Tanya Chutkan

Here we go again! The BIG FAT BABY, Trump, gets chance after chance and continues to post vile, racist bullshit like this. Today Judge Chutkin imposed limited gag order, but apparently it isn't enough to convince him to SHUT HIS USELESS ASS UP!

Sigh. Stand by for the inevitable updates.

The Visual

"Let it go over a cliff, die completely, and then come back to life... after that you cannot be deceived."

~Zen Proverb

A couple days ago I wrote a slightly humorous post about the hazards of making fun of an otherwise serious situation. In that particular case it was a matter of getting the song, Disco Duck, hopelessly stuck in my head, as I changed some of the words to fit the current showdown over the fiscal goings on in Washington D.C. . At that time I was poking fun of the situation because in truth there is very little I can do to help the negotiations. I did my part last November, but it doesn't seem like it was any help, at least not to any real degree.

A lot of damage is poised to take place, if no settlement is reached.

Most of which could have been avoided.

Mumphf.

There is nothing I can do. I am one person. But apparently my one vote and those who also joined me on election day together don't make that much of a difference.

Voting, it seems, really doesn't matter all that much anymore.

If it ever did.

The other day, with the post about the music in my head, I was poking fun at the thing that worries me. Don't get me wrong, Alan and I will be fine, but it's families, once again, that will be working harder and harder, and seeing less for it. It will be hard on those who remain on unemployment through no fault of their own, and then comes those who depend on Social Security and Medicare who will face even more uncertainty about what their quality of life will be.

It's hard to understand.

And yet, I think all the ones doing the negotiating have long since forgotten, or never knew in the first place, what it feels like to struggle to keep food on the table, or lights on, or clothe a child, or help an elderly loved one stay safe, warm, and in good health.

When I think about America falling off the "fiscal cliff" I don't laugh. I see a steep cliff, with a fence that isn't really strong, but working as a last barrier all the same. And I am thankful for that small fence, because what lies below are jagged rocks, deep cold water, and unless you know how to tread water, you know that when you hit that cold water, all that's left is your own eventual drowning.

When Washington thinks of the fiscal cliff, I think they see piles and piles of money, and falling off that cliff doesn't mean they will drown, it means they won't be able to keep climbing that green hill of endless money. They will be able to clothe their children, feed their families and take care of their elderly. Greed is good. Right?
