I loved my city, and I miss it terribly, but going back for visits is delicious and soul cleansing. Twilight on the Bay Bridge usually provides some beautiful scenes, but again, I think I could argue, and win, that it is at it's most beautiful in autumn. Just look at that golden light, and that fog, and oh my, all that love. If you can't fall in love in San Francisco, your heart has given up. There is so much to love. 

 

Not bad for out of a car, doing 65mps! If I do say so myself. Someone once told me that, the best photos you take are always of people, places and things you really love, and if these are any bit good in your eyes, then you now know just how much I love San Francisco!

Art About Town: San Francisco "Yin And Yang" By Robert Arneson

Yin and Yang, the egghead sculptures that have sat between the Embarcadero Center and Sue Bierman park since 2002, were removed last year to be restored. Which is a good thing, as they became quite popular with residents of San Francisco, and visitors alike. I was certainly a fan since day one. Alan and I would sometimes ponder what the one egghead was possibly yelling, which the other egghead seemed to ignore him. Did the screaming egghead have a hangover? Was he enraged by the unfairness of male pattern baldness? Was he pissed off by an inconsiderate bird, who relieved himself on poor eggy's head? And was eggy's friend really ignoring the obvious pain his friend was in or was the look on his face simply trying to convey to his pal... Dude... Shit Happens! Or maybe the slightly amused look of... Holy Cow, Here He Goes Again! I could sit and ponder the expressions of Yin and Yang all day, and I miss doing so! I hope they will return soon from their maintenance outing, the San Francisco Embaracadero simply isn't the same without them.

Art About Town: San Francisco... "SOMA"

For this Art About Town post I bring you the newest installation, next to Pier 14 in San Francisco, "SOMA." It comes by way of Burning Man, as have most of the works of art that have stood in this place over the last few years. I have enjoyed all the pieces, especially "Crouching Spider," but this one brought a happy little smile to my face because I will have return to photograph it at night, when all those little bulbs light up in different colors! "SOMA" was created by the artist collective, Flaming Lotus Girls, most famous for their flaming sculptures at Burning Man. I did this photograph in early October, and I plan to go back, sometime in the next couples weeks, in the evening, to see it all lit up in it's colorful glory. I can't wait!

October 30th 2013 + Art About Town: San Francisco, "Cupid's Span"

Yesterday, Wednesday, was the last day of our vacation. THANK GOD! Honestly, it wasn't the most restful vacation I have ever had. There seemed to be one stupid thing happening after another, starting with the very first day... well... the second day actually. But it was the 1st. of October. The month of October is now ours annually. Alan has worked long enough, and saved enough personal holidays, that we can now have a whole month to play in. Ordinarily it is a dream, but this last vacation had it's moments, both good and bad. For now, I am concentrating on the good. On the 13th, we celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary, and it was amazing!

Other good moments included... A lovely Twilight Dinner Cruise on the San Francisco Bay! It was a dream! Very casual, but lovely and relaxing all the same. There was a live musical performer, and the dinner was a light buffet of sandwiches, salads, fresh fruit, and fresh warm cookies, plus a full bar. In that we were driving over from the East Bay, we didn't drink, but we didn't need to, it was so relaxing, we felt the stress just drift away!

Other Things That Went Right...

1.We had a great Halloween. I was a Rubber Duck, and Alan was Uncle Si, from Duck Dynasty.

2. We spend 2 days at Pier 39 playing at the 7-D Experience, shooting zombies! What? ... don't laugh!

3. The pain in the ass neighbors, Donny & Nina (not their real names) moved, and took their barking dog with them! There is a minor bit of negativity to share about that, but sometime later. Stay Tuned.

4. We took our yearly ride on the Ride The Ducks tour, and of course, it was terrific fun!

6. Alan and I engaged in a little shopping therapy! FUN!

7. Alan and engaged in a 24hr marathon of the Walking Dead. Spread out over 4 days! LOL.

And, of course, I got to do some photography... at will. No schedules. And of all of the things I photographed, the Bay Bridge ended up being one of my favorite subjects yet again! Purely by coincidence, I happened to be able to photograph the bridge in a special way, 2 years in a row, on October 30th. In 2012 it was while on an aerial tour of the San Francisco Bay. This year, it was while we were driving along the Embarcadero, while in the Duck amphibious vehicle.

You knew I would sneak in some Public Art... right? It's a good shot, but I want to do better, so I am going back later this month to do a more in-depth photo of this piece. In fact, there is a lot of fun stuff coming up... Stay Tuned! The holidays in the Bay Area are nothing short of magical!

December 10th Reveals It's Agenda...

It Might Look Like A Walnut...

Um... ut oh. I thought this year's December 10th came and went a little too quietly. LOL. In my post the other day, I mentioned that sometimes the strange stuff didn't always happen exactly on the day itself, but that sometimes within a a few days or so something will happen that is so off as far as the circumstance or timing that one can't possibly find a better box to put it in other than that wacky curse. We had thought we had beat it this year, but once again it was a case of... WAIT NOT SO FAST! Yesterday morning the news had two really interesting stories about occurrences here in the Bay Area that at first glance seem like the have nothing to do with each other, but may in fact, have everything to do with each other, and the Curse of December 10th!

The first story is about a large number of squid beaching themselves on a beach in Aptos, which is about 70 miles or so south of San Francisco, situated on the Monterey Bay. The animal and wildlife experts have NO idea what could have caused it. They are investigating it, but it adds the Bay Area to the list of areas around the world that has seen a large number of peculiar animal die offs. Yep. Die offs. Okay, I know what you are thinking... what does that have to do with the Curse of December 10th? Glad you asked.

It's about the photo above. See the lights at the bottom of the photo that serve to illuminate the Embarcadero? Do they look a little odd to you? They did to us. As we walked along the Embarcadero last Saturday night, Alan began to laugh about how much the lights resembled... Aliens. You know little green men. Well, I take that back, I actually mean the greys. The big eyed, no mouth, deep grey, slimy skinned, Betty and Barney Hill kidnapping... aliens! Look closely at the picture... don't the lights resemble them, at least a little?

Okay, I know, I know, but then this happened!

Strange Lights Above The Mission District. Could it be a UFO? Or a series of UFO's?  As far as I am concerned it could be. Funny thing, the experts have NO idea what could have caused it. There's that phrase again... the experts have NO idea what could have caused it.

Okay, yes, it's a weird funny coincidence. Okay. Let's say it is. Why did it occur any other day of the year? Or weekend of the year for that matter? It didn't. It happened the weekend of... December 10th!

As the lights in the sky were appearing over the Mission, Alan and I were joking about how the lights along the Embarcadero, lights we have seen hundreds of times over, look kinda like aliens.

Kinda spooky methinks.

Also spooky... If this hadn't been a leap year, the day of the week December 10th would have fallen on would have been... last Saturday, December 8th! Maybe aliens don't know from calendars, unless its a Mayan Calender!

Hmmm.
