The Day After The Day The World Didn't End

Last Friday was supposed to be the end. And not just the end, it was supposed to be THE END OF ALL THINGS. Sigh. I have had mixed thoughts about that. On the one hand, there was a side to me that would be thankful to never have to hear hateful retoric. I could be happy to never hear about the murder of any child ever again, or justifications and excuses about why there is nothing that can be done to get assault weapons off the street.

On the other hand I would love to live long enough to see the world change for the better. I would be happy to just be able to see as many amazing sunsets as possible, and photograph as many cats and kittens as possible. Now that I have flown in a single engine Cessna, I want to fly in a helocoptor. That would be awesome. But to be able to do those things, the world must go on.

So, the question is...

Is it worth it? Is the world not ending worth it?

I don't know...

But I know my camera never lies to me.

What is it about watching other people have fun, that makes you feel all warm and happy inside? I saw parents with their children ice skating, and smiling. Happiness was all around. I think there was definitely a lot of love everywhere I went, and an air of gratefulness about being able to hold your family close. It's more than understandable, in fact isn't it what this time of year is all about? It made me sad to look up at the clock on the Ferry building, and see the American flag still flying at half staff, and know that the last of those children were buried yesterday, but it really warmed my soul and lifted my spirits to see all that love between families, being shared with everyone who stopped long enough to notice.

I noticed. The clock, and the passage of time, had quite a message.

And as that one particular dad and daughter, who careened out of control on the ice and came barreling at me at great speed, we three were already laughing as they hit the side of the rink up close and personal with me. LOL. Strangers 30 seconds earlier, now friends in humor, and shared smiles.

Who would have thought that the END OF THE WORLD could result in such life affirming joy?

Don't Worry It's Not The End Of The World... It's Christmas

Is it raining frogs yet? Horns... have you heard any SUPER LOUD horns? Have you heard about any wars or rumors of wars? Ooops... lets skip that last one. How about one world currency? Nah, not unless you consider that all money world wide is pretty much useless. I know, I know... how about a man with the number 666 walking around with glowing eyes? Hmmm... Ronald Wilson Reagan. Hmmm...! Oh wait, that's so 1985. Well, how about 1/2 the earth's population disappearing? Wait... let me check... sigh. No such luck, all the Palins are still here. No apocolaypse for me! 

Still, I think I am digging sitting here, waiting for the precise moment autumn transcends into winter, and the world ends or  it doesn't. If you believe your bible, we won't know the exact day or time, it's gonna be the best darn surprise apocalypse ever! I just hope I won't be doing anything embarrassing, like... oh... say... showering or picking my nose. Not that I pick my nose, but you know, something like that. I jest, but truth is, I think stuff will end one day. And to that end, I plan to live my life, try to be a smart person, and party like it's 1999. 

And keep the faith.

It's Christmas. My 50th. That is a minor miracle in and of itself.

Troublesome Things

Here is the latest scene that can be found in one of my favorite parks in the East Bay... Cull Canyon Park. It was raining yesterday, so there was a proper chill in the air, just enough to remind me that it's time to get the scarves and mittens out! There was a little bit of mist moving ghostly through the trees, and if you stood in one place, you could hear the fallen leaves dancing about. It's so strange, some years there are red, yellow, pink and orange leaves right up until December 21st. I love those years of Christmas shopping, while counting leaves. This year will be different. The color is already draining from autumn's face, and in it's place will be the cold wrinkles of winter.

If the Mayan prophesy is true, as autumn ends, so will our existence. Actually, they didn't really foretell of the end of days, so much as a time of transformation. Personally, I don't believe it will be our literal end that day, but it certainly is possible to see dire times ahead. It's possible that someone, somewhere will make a decision that will... well... usher in a new reality. It's a shame about the escalating violence between Israel and Palestine. War for peace sake has never made much sense to me, but who am I to tell anyone how to achieve happiness. I don't have an opinion on that conflict. It's up to them to determine their destiny, but I do wish that there was peace and except when it comes to autumn leaves... I would love a hundred year war of autumn leaves. I wonder which color would emerge as the ultimate victor?

Red? Yellow? Pink? Orange? Green? Brown? 

Only time, and the seasons, will tell! In the mean time, I will just keep counting autumn leaves.

A Photo A Day For 6 Months: Day 21: Strange Underwear

It was a better day. Although a decidedly strange one. It's not often that a see other people's underwear, but today I saw not only one pair... but two. The first pair of underwear was spotted near a local Arby's, where I went for lunch. I was waiting for a light to turn, so I could make a left turn, and there she was... a woman... in her underwear. Black bottoms to be exact. She was just standing, on the opposite corner, in a pair of black undies... with a turtleneck top on. A turtleneck... and black panties. At first I thought it might be bikini bottoms, but who wears a turtleneck top and bikini bottoms? I decided to pretend I wasn't seeing what I saw and took my delicious Arby's sandwich home for lunch. It was the best way to deal with it I think.


Now, for the second pair. After dinner tonight, Alan and I decided it would be fun to go to Starbuck's for an ice tea. As we turned into the parking lot, there, in all her glory, was a young woman, dressed in nothing but teeny, tiny, panties, a leather bra, a black garter belt, and hose with glow in the dark hearts on them. Ummm... huh? All I could think to say was... "Alan... don't look." "I have to look" he said... I am driving. "Yes... yes you are" I said. At that point I had tons of questions. Was it black undies day? Was there some sort of ritual I have been missing? Sigh. Is it just me, or is life getting really, really weird, the closer we get to December 21st, 2012? Well, it is, according to some, the possible date of the end of the world. Perhaps peoples inhibitions are waning. Or maybe it's just life in California... SHRUG.
