Autumn Leaf Of The Day #28/The Energy Eater

“When you fall in love with a work of art, you’d die to meet the artist. I am a student of the galleries of Pacific sunsets, full moon rises on the ocean, the clouds from an airplane,
 autumn forests in Raleigh,
 first fallen snows.
And I’m dying to meet the artist.”

~Yasmin Mogahed

Just for fun and chills, I give you, Kolchak: "The Energy Eater. It was a favorite of mine when I was a child. In fact, I never missed an episode. How about you? When you were a kid, did you wait all week for Friday nights, so you could watch Karl Kolchak defeat the ghosts, witches, demons and ghouls that came his way? I did, and then promptly had nightmares for the next week, until Friday night came around again! So much fun! This episode is really a metaphor for how I am feeling right now. I am getting my energy drained daily by this election. 17 more days to go, and I am terrified. We should all keep the eyes on the prize and don't look down, I get that, but damn I need some good news. I go to bed every night with such fear for this county, and unlike the fear of the next episode of Kolchak:The Night Stalker, I don't look forward to the next episode of, Oh My God, What Did He Just Say/Do? I don't know, I think I just need more of the things that scare me in a good way, like a show with monsters, where it is all resolved by a good guy, in under an hour! How about you, are you doing okay? Share in the comments if you feel like it.

And now...

Kolchak: The Night Stalker...

Road Trip

"May came home with a smooth round stone.
As small as a world and as large as alone."

~E.E. Cummings

Things are horrific. As anyone who has moved might imagine. We are having a terrible time finding a place. Sigh. There aren't really any good options left. But the good news is, there are options! I will lay them all out on Tuesday, but for now, Alan and I are heading out on a day trip away from all that is hurting us. The move, Dylan's illness, my failing health, lack of money, in other words, LIFE.

Reno, here we come!

HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS And The Leaf of The Day

California Academy Of Sciences
Golden Gate Park
San Francisco, California
October 20th 2010

"When the wolf howls and the moon dims
hope fades with the waning light
Evil lurks at every turn as shadows waltz
across the ebony night.
Behold the midnight hour
where all of reason takes flight."

~Grace Willows

Our vacation Begins Today! What does that have to do with that charming creature above? Absolutely nothing!
Yay!

The Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is one scary bug! Bugs and creepy crawlies are scary enough for me with just their appearance, but now they have some that also hiss? Hissing from a cat can be scary, because it usually means, they are about to scratch the living fuck out of you, but a hissing cockroach, that's crossing a line I simply refuse to deal with! This little specimen was behind glass, and I couldn't look at it for about 20 minutes or so. Once I did, it took forever to get my courage up to photograph it, even knowing full well, there was no danger, whatsoever, of it attacking me! In the end, I did get my courage up, and I took the photograph. It was cool that it all happened in October, because one expects to be frightened in October, but damn, I don't think I want to meet that guy in a dark alleyway, in the dead of night... in October!

Going Up

"If you die in an elevator, be sure to push the up button."

~Sam Levenson

Blech. I am not fond of elevators in general, but this one... I HATE! It's at my doctor's office, which makes it even more yucky! GERMS. Mine, the guy next to me! ICK! Especially since my local news insists on mentioning nightly each new death in the Bay Area from the H1N1 flu. It also doesn't help knowing that each death occurred in folks under 62, with underlying health concerns. Hello diabetes? Hello Fibromyalgia? YIKES. But other than the possibility of getting the flu, this elevator has the harshest ride of any that I know of, anywhere. It only goes up three floors, and the ride is smooth, but coming down, just before the last floor... BOOM. It's harsh. But it keeps passing all the tests that are done for safety, so, I just try to go with the ride, but I have been thinking of taking the stairs, it's better for my health! Right?

Right?
