Beautiful But Sad Poetry And Autumn Leaf Of The Day #74

"Autumn is a beautiful but sad poem that
dying leaves recite with great enthusiasm
so that the world will remember them
as they bid farewell to the world!"

~Mehmet Murat ildan

I saw so much this week. The beautiful. The scary. The Rain. The Sun. The sad. The amazing. For seven days, it carried a lot for eyes to see. The autumn is coming to a close, but the leaves show no signs of giving up, and as long as they can be found, I will be there. There is snow in the mountains right now, and I expect in Yosemite as well, so I cannot help but think about what opportunities lie beyond photographing the last of the leaves and the birds. The leaves will probably fade away fairly soon after my last Autumn Leaf Of The Day posting on December 21st. The birds don't really start to wane until sometime in the spring. About the only time I don't have something of interest overlapping is spring into summer. Mostly I just experience depression in summertime, but maybe this next summer will have something for me, if I start my search now. Maybe I will just focus on July and August, and take it slow. I have to find something to lift my spirits. I know there is something out there, I just haven't discovered it yet. So coming the research into the possibilities.

Nah

"No one can tell what goes on in the between the person you were and the person you become. No one can chart that blue and lonely section of Hell. There are no maps of change.
You just come out the other side. Or you don't."

~Stephen King
The Stand

The packing continues, of course, and it's going very well. We have finished packing the garage, and we threw a lot of stuff away. That felt really good, although I plan to throw even more away. once the final sorting takes place. Fortunately, there aren't many boxes and containers that are designated "to be determined". Objects come and go, but of all the treasures I own, books are the most difficult to part with! I know, I know, once they are read, why keep them? Well, it's simple, they are like friends you can contact, any time you need them. I love them. I love how heavy they are. How they look on the right shelf or bookcase. I especially love holding them in my hands, while I am reading in bed! Part with my books? Nah. I simply can't. Sorry... not sorry. I won't throw them away. I won't even donate them. I can't. They are my way out of this world. I love getting lost in them. It's a good feeling to know that after we move, my books will be waiting to be put back in their rightful place, and holding still, until it's time to be taken down and enjoyed on some chilly autumn afternoon to come.

Hoot... Hoot Hoot

"You are Mr. Owl. I am Ms. Hummingbird.
We may be from different species but as long as you're a bird,
 I'm a bird too."

~Glad Munaiseche

Isn't this owl basket adorable? I found it at Michael's for 50% off, so I purchased two of them. Right now they are sitting in the living room, on the cubby stands we bought recently at IKEA. They bring a whimsical touch to the room, but let's face it, the add that autumn flavor as well. LOL. I have been becoming a fan of owls in the last couple years or so. The new key chain I treated myself to, after purchasing my Chevy Spark, has an antique-like owl on it, and over the summer I purchased a set of owl figurines, which I thought were just too dam cute to pass up! Also on the list of new owl objects is a set of four mugs which have different colored owls sitting in a rather bare tree. Okay. Yes. I guess it's official, I am now an owl person, which kinda makes me sound like I perch in barns late at night, and hunt small rodents. LOL. How about instead we say I am an owl enthusiast!

Watching Time

"Time is the longest distance between two places."

~Tennessee Williams
The Glass Menagerie

Is it just me? Has January seemed like the longest damn month EVER to you as well? I think it must be because I am waiting to get rid of this butt hair phone I have. HELLS BELLS. It might also be because of the extreme Fibromyalgia slap-down I have been enduring. I think it must have something to do with the mild food poisoning I got after the first of the year. But seriously, I haven't been out of the house in almost a month, except for some minor errands here and there. Anyway, it should be different next week, as Alan and I have a few ideas for some fun day trips. I just hope I will have the energy to go when the time comes. Sheesh. I had an opportunity to be an extra in a new movie shooting here in the Bay Area in the coming weeks, but had to turn it down because I couldn't guarantee what my energy level would be.

It wasn't the end of the world, and there will be other opportunities, but sometimes it hurts my feelings to have to miss things like that because of a disease that basically amounts to phantom pain. Well, that's not quite right... the pain is there, but Fibromyalgia exaggerates how severe it is. One would think that if you already knew that fact, one could will the pain away, but no, that's not how it works. It's just something I have to deal with, but I sure wish time was moving at a slightly different pace. A photo jaunt next week will help, it always does! In the mean time I have to photograph different subjects close to home. Like personal items that hold meaning for me.

With this post I have decided to begin a new series centered around different time pieces. I like clocks and watches, so much so, that I have a small collection of them. The watch above was a present from Alan. I love it! It's small and feminine and goes with everything in the closet. It's my every day Go To watch. Most of the time I use my cell phone to keep track of time, but when we go out to lunch, or when I go out for something special, it's the watch I use most often. Funny, out of all the time pieces I have, I just keep going back to the same one, over and over. LOL. The one situation when I don't tend to carry a watch is when I am going on a planned photo jaunt, like the one planned for next week. I don't like anything on my wrist while I am concentrating on a subject. It's a distraction. In fact, I don't tend to wear much jewelry at all when I am out with the camera. It's a shame really, I have quite a collection of fun little necklaces, rings and pins. Funny how our taste changes over time. My pretty little watches are just sitting my jewelry box, keeping the other baubles company, ticking along through time without me.

Memento Mori

"All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another persons
 ( or thing's ) mortality, vulnerability, mutability.
Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time's relentless melt."

~Susan Sontag

The year 2014 is facing it's mortality. And I for one am ready to grieve it and leave it. What a dreadful, treacherous, mean spirited, devastating year it has been. So much sadness... so much loss. Most of it pointless. If I hadn't had my cameras, and my new McDillet friends, I don't know what I would have done. They make me smile. They make me laugh, and they remind me that there is something else to focus on besides grief, politics, and the negative forces in the universe! Isn't life odd and random sometimes?

While I have been a fan of Dylan McDermott's for years and years, I never knew how much he would come to mean to me. If not for him, and the fun I found through him, by way of the McDillet Babes, his devoted fans, and Daily McDermott, I would have rarely smiled at all this year! I will always be a little in love with him just for that, let alone all the million or so other reasons, such as his kind heart, his generosity, and his warmth toward his fans. He is a very nice man.

Okay, so now I want to look back at a few photos that for one reason or another
didn't make it into an Ellipsis post, because they are lovely, and deserve to be seen!
