Autumn Leaf Of The Day #83

“In every change, in every falling leaf there is some pain, some beauty. And that's the way new leaves grow.”

~Amit Ray

Yet another one, but it just fits today.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #81

“I dream of dreams...
Once dreamt,
now lost.
How sunshine steals
from autumn frost.”

~Michael Faudet,

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #52

“What an abundant harvest has been collected in autumn! The earth has now fulfilled its design for this year, and is going to repose for a short time. Thus nature is continually employed during the greatest part of the year: even in her rest she is active: and in silence prepares a new creation.”

~Christoph Christian Sturm,

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #45

“Maybe late afternoon is autumn; summer’s retreat
not being archived, but suspended, as the feathered
vane of a bird wings its way across the avenue.”

~Michelle Cahill,

I love oak leaves. They turn such glorious shades of wine and rust. I am lucky enough to live near a park that has at least 30 varieties of trees, and yet the oak always calls me over first. The trees in the park are maturing slowly this year, so it will be closer to Thanksgiving before I can get a picture of the trees in all their glory. I am really looking forward to just taking a whole day and photographing everything Lewis Park has to offer! Bird, leaves, ships in the harbor, it's all waiting for my camera.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #44

“In November, some birds move away and some birds stay. The air is full of good-byes and well-wishes. The birds who are leaving look very serious. No silly spring chirping now. They have long journeys and must watch where they are going. The staying birds are serious, too, for cold times lie ahead. Hard times. All berries will be treasures.”

~Cynthia Rylant,

The leaves are getting more colorful now. A little later today I am going leaf peeping in Sacramento, and the anticipation makes my heart leap just a little bit! I can't wait to see all the beautiful autumn color!

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #31

“Their leafy whispers delighted her, and she promised her confidentiality by gently touching the trunks of both trees. They had held her secrets close to their hearts, she could do no less.”

~Jesikah Sundin,

Have you ever just stopped in autumn and listened to the sound of leaves as they glide to the earth? It is music. And it isn't a mere instrumental, it has lyrics too! It's a love song one minute, and the next a marching band. Mostly though, it whispers of love and the joys of a life lived to the fullest. Of no moment left unnoticed and no season taken for granted. I wish I would have lived my life with as much grace as a tree does. I wish I would have allowed myself to learn the timely lessons of letting go, and the healing and renewal that comes from it.

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #27

“Give me a land of boughs in leaf
A land of trees that stand;
Where trees are fallen there is grief;
I love no leafless land.”

~A.E. Housman

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #23

“October, crisp, misty, golden October,
when the light is sweet and heavy.”

~Angela Carter,

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #22

“Autumn leaves fall from the tree, disappear with the wind, but then reappear on the tree and disappear again. Memories are like that, first they fall off the tree of the mind and disappear, and then they reappear and disappear again!”

~Mehmet Murat ildan

There was a tiny little spider making his home around that leaf. It chose a beautiful place to call home!

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #16

“Each leaf tells us a story. The story of its struggle.
The story of the storms that it faces in life.”
~Avijeet Das

Atmospheric rivers. Droughts that last for decades. The avian flu that just ripped through the bird populations. The hottest temperatures on record keep breaking the records year after year. And this year, a monsoon struck southern Nevada, causing flooding and power outages throughout the city. The Earth is unhappy, and it can be seen in the amount of dead trees I am seeing everywhere. We had a really wet year, but water alone won't fix the damage humans have allowed to happen. Climate Change is real. Full stop!

HELP! There's A Humpback Whale In The Bay! And #11

 “FALLING IN LOVE WITH OCTOBER

Leaves descending to the ground,
Orange, magenta, green & brown
The cool crisp breezes in the air,
Autumn season must be here”

~ Charmaine J Forde

I am torn. The leaves are turning and falling earlier than usual. It's barely October and autumn has exploded! The birds are coming in larger numbers every day. San Francisco, my dearest old friend, is calling to me, so is Monterey. I wanna take a bay cruise. I wanna see the Elk in Point Reyes Station. I wanna go to scary movies...

HELP! I NEED MORE ENERGY!

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #6

“Autumn is a place where words fall short.
It is a magic that must be felt, breathed, experienced, and treasured.”

~Laura Jaworski
