Happy Holiday's Bitches!

"If my Valentine you won't be,
I'll hang myself on your Christmas tree."

~Ernest Hemingway
88 Poems

Yep. It's that time of year again! Time for the annual fictitious war on Christmas, waged yearly by the senile minds of Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O''Reilly, and and now any and every Republican nut job who wants to be considered one of the cool kids, when all they really seem to be is, well, paranoid! But this year, thankfully, that might have all changed. Apparently the new GOD of the Republican party, Donald J. Trump has won the war on Christmas, or so says, Trump ass kisser, Corey Lewandowski, just by getting elected, and the people all said HuZZAH! The war is over!

Honestly, how much longer could this ridiculous holiday tradition endure? How many more books could have been written, pimped and then sold, on a subject as empty as the paranoid War On Christmas? It was mildly amusing when folks first begin whispering about it, then it turned to irritating as one idiot after another droned on about how commercial it had all become, as they wrote and sold books, at Christmas time, to back up their claims.

HOW DARE LIBERALS WISH ME A HAPPY HOLIDAY?!

CHRISTMAS HAS BEEN STOLEN
BY HANUKKAH And KWANZAA I TELLS YA!

Because, you know, no one can hold more than one holiday in their heart at a time, well, Republicans can't anyway. But the rest of us can. And do. In our house we celebrate Christmas, and Hanukkah. Take THAT Republicans! You see, some hearts successfully celebrate so much love and friendship for Thanksgiving in November, that they become so filled with the spirit of the holidays that it inspires them to express their well wishes for Christmas, Hanukkah, AND Kwanzaa... with a little room left over for New Years! Now I ask you, is that really something to be terrified of?

Each year I have said it, and I will say it again this year...

The holidays, Christmas in particular, are as exactly as commercial as you allow them to be! If too much commercialism is spoiling your spiritual time... don't buy that book that complains about the very thing you find so unseemly. And definitely stay away from Trump's "Make America Great Again" hat ornament! Something I personally find offensive, because Trump profits not just off the birth of Christ, but because he profits off his presidency, and when folks buy into that they don't see that the very things they have been complaining about, they are now contributing to!

Tricky. Very Tricky!

But is it war? Of course not!
What it is, is, TACKY!
Is there a war on Democracy?
Time will tell.
Right now we have a choice about that.
Let's hope we always do!

If you have to purchase, or just want to purchase, some ornaments for your holiday tree, why not stick with something traditional...

A fashionable holiday Pickle

A pretty little tabby cat

A Carousel Horse

It's all good.
And it's all just as commercial as YOU choose to make it!

Creative Light And Dark

"You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved."

~Ansel Adams

One thing I love about working with new cameras is discovering all the new things it's capable of. I haven't had a really serious camera like this new Nikon in a long time. My Samsung, which is attached to my phone does okay... I mean really okay... for a phone with a camera. In fact, it's a better camera then it is a phone, so I know I will continue to use it for as long as it works, but I just needed something a camera that was a little more sophisticated, and I found that with this new one. So far I am very happy with the night and low light shots. My next test for it will be a full moon, which comes up on December 13th, if the sky is cloud free of course! It's something positive to look forward to as I fight this depression I am in. If you have fought depression like I have, you know the drill, set small, attainable goals, and work toward them.
 Okay. I'll Try.

Funny thing about that quote by Ansel Adams, you bring all those things to your depression too. Maybe that's why so many really creative people have spent their life fighting depression like I have.

Old Nonsense

Leaf Of The Day
November 13th 2016

"Finish each day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in;
forget them as soon as you can.
Tomorrow is a new day.
You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit
to be encumbered with your old nonsense."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Just the Leaf Of The Day for today's post, as this is the last post of my vacation. Tomorrow (Monday) not only begins the work week, but also a return to a real schedule, for the first time in a month. Frankly, I am ready. While this vacation was the best one we had in several years, it was also filled with extreme high and low moments. I am ready to face a real schedule again, which I think will help me process what has just happened, and what is likely to happen in the future. One day at a time... right? One day at a time.

A Place Of Rest And Refuge

"It is by far the grandest of all the special temples of nature I was ever permitted to enter."

~John Muir

"Yosemite Park is a place of rest, a refuge from the roar and dust and weary, nervous, wasting work of the lowlands, in which one gains the advantages of both solitude and society. Nowhere will you find more company of a soothing peace-be-still kind. Your animal fellow beings, so seldom regarded in civilization, and ever rock-brow and mountain, stream, and lake, and every plant soon come to be regarded as brothers, even one learns to like the storms and clouds and tireless winds. This one noble park is big enough and rick enough for a while like of study and aesthetic enjoyment. It is good for everybody, no matter how benumbered with care, encrusted with a mail of business habits like a tree with bark. None can escape its charms. Its natural beauty cleans and warms like a fire, and you will e willing to stay forever in one place like a tree.'

~John Muir
John Of The Mountains:
The Unpublished Journals Of John Muir

This past week has been unparalleled in it's... tension. The election left me devastated. On edge. More unsure of my future than ever before. And I will say it... depressed. But, reluctantly, Alan and I decided to just get into the car and visit somewhere we had never been before, Yosemite. I wasn't prepared for the stunning beauty. The quiet loveliness that it almost had it's own song. and if it did it would certainly be a hymn. There is such a special spirit to the park, that it was healing just being among the trees, and the waterfalls. It was life, at it's best. It was like the whole Yosemite Valley said to us, "come in, I will hold your pain, at least for a little while." And it did, and for that I am grateful!
