It was getting dark, so it could have been most any bird that haunts Desmond road, but I really believe it was the Red-winged Blackbird, that was sitting on that fences post being silhouetted against that dimming light of day. Photogenic, and singing so beautifully. I have come to love those birds, who are always the highest in numbers of the perching birds. Spring fills the air with the sounds of the last migrating birds, and then becomes deafeningly silent for those depressing summer months with nothing to do, but dread another day taking place. I think I have mentioned this before... I hate the spring and summer with a great passion! The upside, however, is that we are a season away from autumn! I don't count the season I am in when counting. That sounds a lot better than it's 4 months away. 4 is more than 1. Anyway, here are some other photos I have done along Woodbridge and Desmond roads and on a recent trip to Knights Ferry.

My thoughts are scattered. Scattered like a million leaves at the base of a tree in autumn. I'm in October. My favorite beautiful, luscious, tasty month of autumn, and I am feeling uninspired. Some of it is stress. The ballots are being sent out to voters today. I want it to arrive tomorrow, but I know that probably isn't going to happen. It will be at least Wednesday before I see it, which in any other year, would be just fine, but this year it feels like forever.

 Trump pulled one hell of a stunt yesterday, with that little joyride he took around Walter Reed hospital, just so he could hear applause from his cultists. Again, history won't fail to document it, but it's so hard to take. It was dangerous for the agents who had to accompany him. It's embarrassing. It's frightening. It's unnecessary. And who is going to tell him NO? That's the frustrating part.

 Political analysts, pundits, and even folks like myself will complain, but ultimately there is very little going to happen over it. Was he sick or not? How could he have Covid-19 and find the will and energy to do something so incredibly stupid? I guess I will have to leave that up to history too. Vacation begins in four days, will history be able to answer that question by then, who knows? All I know is, nothing at all. But isn't that a pretty little hen? I took that photo in 2017, and never posted it. Whats up with that? The photos of the leaves are also from my archives. I guess some autumns just make more sense than others.

As Alan and I passed this truck, on Highway 5, last week, I couldn't help but smile and wave some good luck their way, and let me tell you, the smile on the young man's face was amazing! Even in the simple act, of smiling at a stranger passing him on the highway, that was wishing them luck, you could tell he had found his soulmate, and he couldn't wait for the adventure to begin! I wish them so much love, and so many wonderful, fun, exciting years together!

I am beginning to not hate spider webs, as long as they aren't on me, or too close by. This one was a few feet from me, on the day I photographed it, and it had a beautiful appeal to it, with it's jewel and earth tones, shining with the warm autumn sun resting on it, but it was quite large, therefore I was reluctant to get too close to it. I was sad about that, because in a creative way I would have appreciated seeing the spider, or spiders, that worked so hard on it! It was clearly old in parts but there was also what appeared to be brand new silk, I think this had been a multi-family dwelling. It was decorated nicely, in most of the colors I gravitate to this time of year, so whoever lived there, they clearly have a talent for decorating!

 

I enlarged the photo somewhat, and did some sharpening, and finally spotted one tiny occupant of this autumn house.

First Frost

We took a ride yesterday to the Central Valley town of Knight's Ferry. It was such a beautifully warm autumn day, that we couldn't resist getting out of the house to soak up some autumn light! While Knight's Ferry doesn't offer a lot of autumn color, as far as the trees go, there were a few here and there that had some amazing color. We are almost at the halfway point of the autumn season, so I thought I would photograph these stairs, because it just seemed like a perfect metaphor for where we are in the season!

The town of Knight's Ferry is so quaint, that it would fill several posts to give you a proper look at it! I took a lot of photos around town, so I will be saying more about this place, and it's history as we move through autumn. It has a rich past and it is very enjoyable to visit. It's truly like walking into the past! This post is all about the cinnamon cobbler stairs we came across, but stay tuned, there is plenty more to come about the town of Knight's Ferry!
