Dance Of The Starbucks Sugar Plum Cheese Danish

Yum. That right there is a picture of just one more part of Autumn I look forward to with great passion, the return of Starbucks Sugar Plum Cheese Danish. It's a simple pastry, sweet and creamy, and it's paired with a buttery flaky crust. There is just nothing not to like about it. My former Autumn craving was the, Starbucks Cranberry Bliss Bar, but once I tried this bit of loveliness, there was no going back. I discovered the Cranberry Bliss Bar, years ago, and every year it was my tradition, and delight, to pair it with a peppermint hot chocolate, when we went to either Union Square, in San Francisco, or the Holiday Merry-Go-Round in Tilden Park, in Berkeley. It just helped to make everything even more festive. Alas everything changes, right? We moved, fairly suddenly, to Stockton, and we no longer went to the city, or to Tilden Park. A 79 mile trip requires a lot of planning, so visiting could be dicey in the late Autumn and early Winter.

With our new hometown, came new tradition, Christmas eve colds, flu and most recently... Covid-19. But in-between sneezing disasters, came opportunities for holiday shopping, and errands. And what goes great with those things? Starbucks and pastry. So, one rainy autumn day, just past Halloween, and just prior to Thanksgiving, off I went to Trinity Parkway to shop, but one my way I stopped at my nearest bucks, salivating for a Cranberry Bliss Bar. To my disappointment they had none of those, but they did have the Sugar Plum Cheese danish. Huh? Shrug. I agreed to that, because what the hell? Why not? I love cheese danish, and this one has sugar plum whatever on it to make it even more sweeter than it already is! Why not?

OMG... oh my... something very, very evil began on that day, because I began to sing, JOY TO THE WORLD, A DANISH IS BORN... . I kid you not. A new Autumn tradition was born that day, and with it, visiting the absolutely gorgeous Sandhill Crane of Woodbridge road, later in the day, as they return home to their resting place, and taking this delectable snack with me. My hot cocoa has evolved to Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce, and the two together is nothing short of life affirming! Who doesn't need something like that once in a while? I have always had a sweet tooth, which is probably really bad at my age, but they holidays only come around once a year, and Autumn is sacred, so what's a girl to do?

Everything about the two pastries is perfect, however they are both a bit expensive. Shrug. What isn't expensive anymore? if $4 for a cheese danish seems pricey, I found a recipe hack that could make indulging more often reasonable, and of course, it can be customized as you like. You can find the recipe here. I haven't tried it yet, but I hope to soon. I have a few other treats ahead of it, waiting to be made. Hubby wants some chocolate cinnamon biscotti, and I want to make some Cinnamon pecans. Not to mention baked apples and perhaps even a holiday pavlova. I love this time of year! Autumn is the sweetest time of life.

Lemon Meringue Pi

Lemon Meringue Pie

Yesterday, Saturday, was Pi day in the universe, so Alan and I decided to grab a couple slices. He chose his favorite, cherry, but I was having a difficult time deciding between Peach and Lemon Meringue. In the end, I chose the Lemon Meringue because it had been a VERY warm winter day, and Lemon Meringue just seemed to be a perfect choice. It's winter in the Bay Area, and Alan and I are planning on putting the air-conditioner back in the window on Monday. I don't know about you, but that's kinda spooky... don't you think? But I am not stressing about it right now, I have pie.

Shrug.

Good News Should Always Involve White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

"Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart."

~Erma Bombeck

It's official... I am better! The cold is finally lifting, after a long four weeks, I can breathe again, and OMG, I can sleep for longer than an 1 1/2 hours without waking up with the sensation of choking to death! Yippee! I slept yesterday for... wait for it... 6 straight hours! Yes, woke up coughing, a little bit, maybe 30 minutes or so, but that is a huge improvement! At the peak of the cold, I would wake up choking and coughing, and I would be in a spasm of coughing that would last up to 2 hours! Several times I felt like I was about to break a rib, and I pulled more than one muscle, but thankfully the pain didn't last long! If I continue on this course, I think next week at this time I should be 100% or better. I am aiming for that.

Come HELL or HIGH WATER, I am getting out one day this week with the cameras! Ideally, I would spend the day on the peninsula and in the city, because that would maximise my chances of doing a lot of spontaneous photography amongst my self assigned ops. I love those photos that come along by pure chance, when your mind is concentrating elsewhere! Those moments, and images, are the gifts of the muse. Sometimes I prefer to jump in the car with no preconceived ideas or notions about the day in photos. It's fun! It's exciting! Well... to me it is! LOL.

So, that's the good news. And so is that luscious White Chocolate Raspberry cheesecake! Alan brought me home a slice, and I made a deal with myself to make it last 3 days! Don't get me wrong, I could inhale that yumminess in one quick breath, even with my cold, but the truth is I don't need all the calories at once, so I am pacing myself and counting calories accordingly. Everything is managed when you are a diabetic. It's all good.

Okay, do you have any good news to share? Feel free to leave me your thoughts in the comment thread!

If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want To Be Right ;)

"All you need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt."

-Charles M. Schulz

Today, September 13th, is National Chocolate Day, do you know where your dessert is? LOL. I have to admit, I probably don't have as strong a love for chocolate as most folks, but I also have to admit that there are times when nothing else will compare. Since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last year, I have made the nutritional changes to my diet into a bit of a game. I have tested the affects of different foods on my blood glucose levels, and experimented with different ways of tweaking recipes to help in managing and meeting my dietary goals. I saw my diagnosis not as a setback in life, but rather a new way to take care of myself, and a new way to channel some creativity.

Today, my doctor is thrilled with me, and my ability to keep my blood glucose numbers in what she calls, "the fantastic range." Most of the time, I register numbers that would be considered good for non-diabetics. All the time I invested in myself has paid off in the form of being able to be a little nutritionally naughty on days like this. NATIONAL CHOCOLATE DAY! I am planning a nice healthy dinner tonight, to be followed by a slice of Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake. The one you see in the above photo to be exact. Dark chocolate is good for you, and it is good for the diabetic, when enjoyed in the proper portions. It's fun being a little naughty once in a while, especially if I know that along with the thrill, I am also taking care of myself.

So tell me, will you celebrating National Chocolate Day? And if so... how? What is your favorite chocolate indulgence? Do you prefer white chocolate, dark chocolate or milk chocolate? Tell me everything... you know you want to!

Martha's A-Z Photo Challenge: D Is For Dessert

"Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the Titanic who waved off the dessert cart."

-Erma Bombeck

Dessert? Yes please! How about a slice of White Chocolate Lemon Cake with Raspberries on top? Yes please!

I don't know which was more fun. Photographing this beautiful slice of cake, or eating it. ;) It was a treat to be sure! And somebody up there must like me a little bit, because my 2 hour blood glucose reading was a respectable 127! It's not something I indulge in often, in fact it had been 7 months since I had a piece of cake, but heck once in a while a girl needs to be a bit naughty. Too my delight, nothing is strictly taboo to we diabetics anymore, we simply have to put some thought into it. Plan for it. It's a little bit of work, but it's so worth it!

You should join Martha's A-Z Photo Challenge. It's fun. You can see what Martha came up with for the letter "D" and find the links to everyone who participated for the letter "C" just by clicking here.
