"Never ask a woman, eating ice cream straight out of the carton, how she's doing." ~Unknown'
We are quickly approaching the midpoint of summer. This year it falls on August 6th. So, it's time to brush up on some ice cream recipes. I have a wonderful Cuisinart Ice Cream and yogurt maker, that I bought in the mid 90's, and it's still going strong! We have made some unique, and really delicious flavors. I have a Ben and Jerry's ice cream cookbook, and the cantaloup and chocolate mint flavors always come out perfect! I have tried most of their recipes, so I want to movie on to recipes I haven't thought of trying, and of course, New York Times Cooking does provide! Here is a link to a model similar to mine. I am fairly sure my 30 year old one has been retired. If you don't have your own ice cream machine, I recommend Cuisinart. But full disclosure, Cuisinart is my go to for most of my small product machines.
Don't these recipes for ice cream and sorbet sound delicious?
Which is as crazy as believing stuffed animals are gold."

The Beanie Bubble
Did you collect Beanie Babies? I did, kinda. How can one "kinda" collect something? Well, here's the thing, I bought them mostly for my niece, and for my mother. In my niece's case, it was an incentive to keep getting those A's, but with my mother, well, she was in the early stages of Alzheimer's, and she liked having the little animals around. Her cats enjoyed them too. Now, about me, I have always loved stuffed animals, my insane collection goes all the way back to a stuffed turtle my brother sent me from Viet Nam. It was a green and lite blue turtle about 14 inches wide, and it remained on my bed until I got married. I eventually placed my friend, Timmy, in my cedar chest where he remains to this day.
But this movie isn't about sentimental collecting of adorable stuffed animals. This movie isn't really about the toys or the crazed customers who bought them, The movie is about the business of building a company, which sold fairly cheap little toys to mostly crazy ladies, and which carried a corporate crazy all it's own. Inspired by true events, we get to see the manipulations and backstabbing that built the brand, Ty. So, pop some popcorn, sit back, cuddle your favorite Beanie Baby, and enjoy the ride.
Personally, my favorite Beanie Baby was the Princess Diana bear, sigh, which I haven't seen in years. If you were lucky enough to find the bear with the misspellings, well, there's one going for $50,000 on eBay. I wasn't that lucky, I got the reissued one, but I loved her all the same.
"The odd thing about this form of communication is that you're more likely to talk about nothing than something. But I just want to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many somethings."
You've Got Mail, is another movie with a loose association with Christmas, but a sentimental one all the same. It is basically a remake of, Shop Around The Corner, but updated to reflect the ins and outs of the love in the computer age. The three little words, you've got mail, which used to tell you when your email had arrived to your inbox, always made me smile. It was fun. Then one day, AOL lost it's damn mind and began to shut everything down, and turn itself into a giant generic billboard. Gone were the AOL Journals, eventually they removed the chat rooms, and so much more that made it the place to be. It was a sad turn of events, but I will always love AOL services for the friends I made, some of which are still friends of mine today! Hi, Karen, Patrick and Kat! Oh well, the AOL of yesteryear, featured in this movie, reminds us how lovely life could be in the 90's, and that was a good thing, I don't know, I suppose it'd merely quaint by today's standards, but it worked for my generation. The love in this movie, which is actually realized some point after New Years Eve, is a great movie to just feel the romance of true love, and the love of times gone by! All that was from my memories, but Kathleen Kelly and Joe Fox, have another story to tell. So, sit back, grab your Starbuck's coffee, or homemade Keurig pod, and watch life and love in 1998! And enjoy the autumn holidays, that are portrayed in this film so beautifully.
"To be honest, I think all cell phones were made by the devil."

Done and done. My new cell phone will be the Samsung Galaxy S5. I just ordered it from Amazon.com, and it will arrive sometime on Tuesday. Finally! Sweet relief from that turd phone I have been carrying around for two years. I will be sitting by the front door for the next couple of days, just in case, you know, they change their minds and send it sooner! I ordered my new phone in black, accidentally, because I am older than GOD. I meant to order the cute copper gold color, but somehow, got it wrong! It's fine though, because I ordered some cute and colorful gel cases so actually my phone will appear to be black and probably pink. God I hate ordering new cell phones and dealing with AT&T. Everything has gotten so complicated.
Remember the good old days when all cell phones cost $600.00 and all phone calls were 65 cents a minute? And it was considered cutting edge to find one that was under 1 1/2 ft long? I got my first cell phone in the late 1990's because, frankly, up until then, I didn't want to be bothered. Finally, Alan told me to get one, because I was working and he wanted me to have a phone in case I got stuck somewhere. I am a bit of a girly girl, and he wanted to know I could reach him if I needed him.
Since that first cell phone, I have had a no frills flat Nokia phone, a slide phone, a flip phone, a Sony Walkman phone, and including my new phone, 4 Androids! Sheesh... that's a lot of phones! And the funny thing is, I don't even know all that many people! LOL. But with the invention of the cell phone, I don't really have to! LOL.I got my games, my social media and Alan and I text ALL the time! Plus I have all the music I need to break into dance suddenly, if need be, and all the books I could possibly read in my Kindle account! Life is good!
But hey, just for fun, take a look at this Youtube clip of a woman, an actress I assume, holding what appears to be a cell phone in the 1928 Charlie Chaplin film, The Circus, and give me your take on it! Is the woman really holding a cell phone, and if she isn't, what could it be? To me it seems like she is, as she can be clearly seen talking into some kind of device! It's not a toaster! It's not an iron! But cell phones weren't even invented yet, so if it isn't a cell phone, doesn't that really an much bigger questions need to be asked? Like are there such things as parallel universes? Could it be she was an alien, and they missed how advanced we were by a couple decades? You must admit, it's all very mysterious!

Ok, what the heck is going on? For the last month or so, I have been seeing BIG 80's hair everywhere I have been. Not on everybody of course, but here and there for sure. Enough so I have noticed. It's so weird. It's like I died, and suddenly I am existing in an alternate New Wave higher, or maybe lower, existence. LOL. Or could it be... fret... that I am finally old enough, that the New Wave style has finally come back into vogue? In either case, this 40-something lady will have no part of it. Nope. I did the Madonna hair, the Stevie Nicks hair. In the 90's I had "The Rachel" look, but now, in 2008, I have "The Carly"... and it just feels nice to have my own style. :)
So tell me, what of this phenomenon? Have you been seeing big hair everywhere also? Is it coming back into style? Inquiring minds want to know!
