Garden Update July 1st 2013

"The serene philosophy of the pink rose is steadying. It's fragrant delicate petals open fully and are ready to fall, without regret or disillusion, after only a day in the sun. It is so every summer. One can almost hear their pink fragrant murmur as they settle down upon the grass: 'Summer, summer it will always be summer.'"

~Rachel Peden

As much as I dislike the summer, and it's oppressive heat, I love what happens to all the roses, leaves and vegetables in the garden! It's gorgeous right now, and it's a happy feeling that it will only get more delicious and fragrant! The next couple months should be stunning!

The Japanese Maple...

The Heirloom Tomatoes...

The Pears...

And to go along with all this loveliness, I got to hear the ethereal musician playing his sax, but today he had some friends playing different instruments along with him. It's lovely. I am so glad he lives in my neighborhood.

Pear Blossoms 2013 + A Round Robin Challenge Reminder!

"A table, a chair, a bowl of fruit and a violin; what else does a man need to be happy?"

~Albert Einstein

Yum! The pear tree is in full, glorious bloom right now, and I can almost taste the Pear and Havarti sandwiches I enjoy every autumn. There is nothing like grabbing a piece of fruit off your very own tree, and making something amazingly delicious with it! I created a few new recipes using the pears from the yard, but it was the Pear and Havarti sandwiches I enjoyed the most. I will have a lot on my plate this year, pun intended, when it comes to experimenting with garden goodness, as we are planning to do a bigger variety of vegetables and container berries. Blackberries, Blueberries and White Strawberries are currently leading the list, but so are edible flowers. I love trying new things. Hopefully by early summer, I will have the recipe blog all dusted off, and ready to go with new original recipes for 2013!

Stay Tuned!

A Photo A Day For 6 Months: Day 153~ Annabelle In The Garden

"Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch to flung into the trees."

~ Faith Baldwin

Meet my scarecrow Annabelle. Isn't she pretty? I named her after a character in the movie, House On Haunted Hill. I love Vincent Price movies, don't you? I also love putting a scarecrow in the garden each autumn. I saw Annabelle at the store the other day, and knew instantly that she would be the perfect girl to watch over the garden when I am off on day trips like today. I am on my way back to Apple Hill today, in search of more autumn countryside, and more of the delicious apple cider donuts, and fresh, chilled spicy apple cider. MMmmmm!

Stay Tuned More To Come...

A Photo A Day For 6 Months: Day 120~ Angry Pickles

"Reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it."

~Jane Wagner

A Mostly True Tale...

He: That's a strange Smile you have on your face...stressed?

Me:  Yes, I am stressed. Why do you ask?

He: Well... you are picking pears off the tree and throwing them at the back fence.

Me: Oh am I? I hadn't noticed. Well... lookie there... (BANG) I AM PICKING PEARS OFF THE TREE AND THROWING THEM AT THE BACK FENCE. WHEN DID I START DOING THAT?

He: Did I do it?

Me: No, no it wasn't you.

He: Do I know who it was?

Me: Yes.

He: Oh... well... um... do I need to start burying the body?

Me: ALAN... that's a silly question... I took care of the body. It's not like I would be irresponsible or anything. I wouldn't leave it for you to do. I always finish my projects.

He: Does that mean you actually took care of the body, or does that mean you at least have a sense of humor about the situation that stressed you out?

Me: Well... if you don't know the answer to that... well... then I don't know what to say.

He: Are you going to be okay?

Me: Sure. I will be fine.

He: Good.

Me: Can I have a hug?

He: Of course, just put the pear down first.

Me: (Laughter) Damn you Alan, you always make me lose my mad.

He: Good. Then my work here is done.

Me: Alan?

He: Yes?

Me: Will you rub my back while I watch General Hospital? I just have to find out if Jerry Jacks kills the whole town of Port Charles.

He: Sure. Sheesh. The things I do for love.

Me: I love you to Alan.

He: (Pointing toward the house) Come on. ( As we walk away, he puts his arm around me, and we walk into the house, leaving the stress behind in the yard.)

The End...

Of...

A Mostly True Tale.

"Stress level" extreme. It's like she was a jar with the lid screwed on too tight, and inside the jar were pickles, angry pickles, and they were fermenting, and about it explode."
