Not To Harp On It, But...

"If you ever looked at me once with what I know is in you , I would be your slave."

~Emily Bronte
Wuthering Heights

Seriously. Natalie Harp needs help. How do I know? Because she displays the exact same obsession I witnessed one day, by a girl, who also had a lot of problems. Her name was Talia. She came for a visit and was staying at my mother-in-laws house. She wasn't visiting our family, she was an acquaintance of the minister of our church, yes, the man I briefly dated. At least he called those dates. It's debatable. Anyway, Talia became obsessed with the minister, and suddenly she announced that they were engaged, a fact he denied. Slowly she began to display odd behavior. Like that ne day, I think I have shared this story,  when my brother-in-law called me on the phone, and very sweetly demanded that we pick Talia up together, from the local "mental health clinic" where she had just been taken by ambulance. Something had set her off, we never found out what exactly what the problem had been, but there it was.

Neither dear brother, nor or I, had any idea what to say to her on the car ride home. She sat in the backseat very quietly, with very dark eyes, staring off into space. Daryl and I were on the brink of nervous giggles, which was so bad under the circumstances, but what could we do, who knows if she was going to randomly freak-out? Fortunately, she didn't seem to notice our nerves! After we arrived home she went to her room, where she spent about an hour. When she emerged she was holding a large poster board with the words... "God became man as man became Gumby's." Yeah, I didn't get it either. Still don't. But I don't think about it that much either. Talia made her way back to Oregon in late August of that year, and after that, who needed to dwell. But that's not the same as forgetting all together!

Fast forward to Natalie Harp. Natalie is not Talia. She's worse. Both in her own behavior, and in her blind devotion to a serial abuser, misogynist, cheater, a man convicted by a jury of his peers of sexual misconduct and at the end of the day, he is a suspected pedophile. And that doesn't begin to cover the other characteristics of his personality, personal beliefs and decision making skills that have proven dangerous to this country! Does America need one more reason to be worried? Natalie is about one heartbeat away from turning into, Alex Deforest, from Fatal Attraction! Does America need to be wondering when Natalie will end up boiling Barron's bunny? She works in highest post of the United States government, she's more important than the president, she's Trump's Binky. And in that she's already moved culture, and probably military policy with her inane posts, such as the one depicting Trump as Jesus, she's already made some deeply negative impressions.

None of this was ever on my bingo card... and I don't know why?

Happy Valentine's Day ~ 2013

"You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams."

~Dr. Suess

Okay, I admit it, I am kinda dorky about Valentine's Day. It's not always filled with big bouquets of roses, romantic movies, and dinners in fancy restaurants, in fact, some of my best Valentine's Days have been spent by myself, reading letters Alan wrote to me a million years ago. SIGH. Then he comes through the door, and I know he is safe, and my day finally begins, and at the same time is complete. Never underestimate the power of a quiet evening at home, great love stories are built on little moments.

"The real lover is the man who can thrill you by kissing your forehead or smiling into your eyes or just staring into space."

They Don't Write 'Um Like That Anymore

"Love is a thing, well, its a kind of quicksand: The more you are in it, the deeper you sink. And when it hits you, you've just got to fall."

-UB40

It's been a long time since I posted a historic love letter entry, but with Valentine's Day less than a week away, I thought it would be a good time. These letters never stop amazing me, such passion and emotion by their authors. Sigh. :) As I read through them earlier this evening, I found I couldn't choose just one, so here are three rather brief, yet sensual letters to lose yourself in... Enjoy!

From Edith Wharton to W. Morton Fullterton
June 8th, 1908

There would have been the making of an accomplished flirt in me, because my lucidity shows me each move of the game - but that, in the same instant, a reaction of contempt makes me sweep all the counters off the board and cry out - "Take them all - I don't want to win - I want to lose everything in you!"

From Charlotte Bronte to Professor Constantin Heger
January 8th, 1845
Note: There is no evidence that her love for the professor was returned.

Monsieur...

The poor have not need of much to sustain them - they ask only for the crumbs that fall from the rich man's table. But if they refused the crumbs they die of hunger. Nor do I, either, need much affection from those I love. I should not know what to do with a friendship entire and complete - I am not used to it. But you showed me of yours a little interest, when I was your pupil in Brussels, and I hold on to the maintenance of that little interest - I hold on to it as I would hold on to life.

From Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) To Olivia Langdon, his future wife.
May 12th, 1869

Out of the depths of my happy heart, wells a great tide of love and prayer for the priceless treasure that is confided to my life-long keeping.

You cannot see it's tangible waves as they flow towards you, darling, but in these lines you will hear, as it were, the distant beating of the surf.

Like I said... Sigh! :)
