Autumn Leaf Of The Day #11

"Summer makes me drowsy, autumn makes me sing,
winter's pretty lousy, but I hate the spring."

~Dorothy Parker

Well, we know how Dorothy felt about autumn, don't we?

I feel exactly as she does, about every single season!

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #2

“Autumn leaves don't fall, they fly.
They take their time and wander on this their only chance to soar.”

~Delia Owens

A pretty orange flower to start the week!

September Midnight
By Sara Teasdale

Lyric night of the lingering Indian summer,
Shadowy fields that are scentless but full of singing,
Never a bird, but the passionless chant of insects,
Ceaseless, insistent.
The grasshopper’s horn, and far-off, high in the maples,
The wheel of a locust leisurely grinding the silence
Under a moon waning and worn, broken,
Tired with summer.
Let me remember you, voices of little insects,
Weeds in the moonlight, fields that are tangled with asters,
Let me remember, soon will the winter be on us,
Snow-hushed and heavy.
Over my soul murmur your mute benediction,
While I gaze, O fields that rest after harvest,
As those who part look long in the eyes they lean to,
Lest they forget them."

Autumn Leaf Of The Day #3

“I hope I can be the autumn leaf, who looked at the sky and lived.
And when it was time to leave, gracefully it knew life was a gift.”

~Dodinsky

 So much beauty.

Spring Into Autumn

"I think the seasons complete me... for once autumn comes I can fall freely along with every leaf. I don nit have to bloom, yet I must die in ever delicate line of October."

~Laura Chouette

About a month ago, or so, we paid a visit to one of my favorite autumn trees, the gorgeous Judas tree in Ione, California. We had a lot of rain this past winter and a little into the spring, so it gave the tree plenty of water that it had been missing due to drought conditions. I am, hopeful that it will produce a beautiful display of autumn color come the fall. It was sad to see it so dry last year, and have no way to help it. Now there is a lot to look forward too.

Gathering Leaves And Autumn Leaf Of The Day #10

Gathering Leaves
By Robert Frost

Spades take up leaves
no better than spoons,
 And bags full of leaves
are as light as balloons.

They make a great noise
of rustling all day
like rabbit and deer
running away.

But the mountains I raise
elude my embrace
flowing over my arms
and into my face.

I may load and unload
again and again
Till I fill the whole shed
and what then?

Next to nothing for weight
and since they grew duller
from contact with earth
next to nothing for color.

Next to nothing for use
but a crop is a crop
and who's to say where
the leaves shall stop.

The leaves above are from a Judas tree, that exists for the time being, at a park and ride in the El Dorado County town of, Ione, California. You may remember me mentioning Ione, when I post about one of my favorite spooky places ever, Preston Castle. Anyway, it has been one of the best sources I have had for finding autumn color in a safe place, and by that, I mean as a place easy to get to, off the road, and not too far into the Sierra foothills. But the last couple years it has become more and more apparent that the town of Ione would rather watch these trees die, than give them a little water. I don't live there, so I feel funny about complaining, I don't know what their budget is, I just know my heart hurts for these beautiful trees. The drought has destroyed so much of the beauty of California, and I feel these trees are just one more casualty. Pray for rain in California, or do some positive visualization, or please, if you can, send some hope their way. I don't want to see their beauty lost forever.

Also from the Judas tree...

No Panache And The Whore

"The tints of autumn... a mighty flower garden
blossoming under the spell of the enchanter, frost."

~John Greenleaf Whittier

So, if all goes well, our official date to vacate our home will be Sunday, October 3rd. What a strange feeling. As I have said before, I liked the place, it had the most beautiful interior lines, and so much mid-century character, but it was never real. No panache and her whore of a boyfriend... lol... builder... liar... coward... co-conspirator, sunk us financially before we ever moved in. For clarification purposes, Jeanette and Mike lied to us just enough to sink our financial life before we ever moved into our home. So why did we move it? Well, it's a long story, that mostly took place in Turlock, California, in the summer of 2015. I don't want to think about it right now, not while I am packing to move from the only home I have ever owned. It brings about too many emotions that wouldn't help in any way! I will share sometime after we move into the new rental. For now, and probably for the next couple weeks, my blog posts will mostly be held to "Leaf Of The Day" entries. Autumn is already looking quite lovely, so I am glad that my blog will have plenty of beautiful leaves to help me heal, and move on.

Leaving Heaven Behind

"The beauty as mystery of this world only emerges through affection, attention, interest and compassion... open your eyes wide and actually see this world by attending to its colors, details and irony."

~Orhan Pamuk
My Name Is Read

Leaves. It's not quite time for autumn, but the colors began almost three weeks ago. Summer gave up this year. Fine. I am ready to be on with it too. Lets get the past, present, and future on it's merry way. The only thing I want to see last is autumn. I am going to need this time of healing. I am grateful that leaving Heaven behind, begins at the end of the summer of 2021.

October Leaves

"The fallen leaves in the forest seemed to make
even the ground glow and burn with light."

~Malcolm Lowry
October Ferry To Gabriola

It looks like a perfect October pumpkin, doesn't it? I love this leaf, but the tree that it was on wasn't doing well the last time I checked in on it. Another victim of California's relentless drought. It is one of my favorite trees, and is in the quaint town of Ione, California. It's from the Judas tree, one of only 4 trees in that town I visit each year. It is one of my, new old tree friends, replacing so many that I had to leave behind back in the Bay Area. Please wish it well, and please pray for some rain for us. October is the prettiest month of the autumn season, in my opinion, and I am hoping next October will be a great big harvest of beautiful leaves of all kinds!

Somedays Just Leaves

October's Party

"October gave a party

The Leaves by hundreds came

The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples

And leaves of every name.

The Sunshine spread a carpet

And every thing was grand

Miss weather led the dancing

Professor Wind the band."

 ~George Cooper

Just leaves today. More words tomorrow.

#18 Autumn Leaf Of The Day

"Just as a painter needs light in order to put the finishing touches to his picture, so I need an inner light, which I feel I never have enough of in the autumn."

~Leo Tolstoy

I'm tired. History will document why. But you already know from what I said just then. I am tired. And it feels like I will never not be tired again. Like it's too later to every find my energy, or regain peace of mind. I want to pain to stop, and I am hoping our vacation will help. I still have that hope. Autumn. Vacation. And hope.

The Last Week Of Autumn...

Autumn ends in exactly one week! One week to go... officially. But I will keep looking for it, and posting it for as long as I can, because I have to, autumn and I understand each other. That makes about three things in life I really understand. Autumn, Alan and the cats. Not necessarily in that order. Today's leaf of the day was featured in more than one post this season, but I keep coming back and marveling at it's beauty. It's shaped like a butterfly, and is alive with color. It's a leaf from the Judas tree. I think I am going to have to plant one in the yard. I am really beginning to love it, and in the spring it puts out the most beautiful pink blossoms. What I wouldn't give to have my very own forest! It would have to be located on a cliff, overlooking the San Francisco bay, and have at least 5 acres on which to put maples and oak and every other autumn tree imaginable.
Oh well, maybe one day... someday.
