Autumn Reflections...

When I saw this cart, I couldn't help but feel sorry for it. It has an injured wheel/paw, and clearly no one is helping it feel better. Yes, even grocery carts have the ability to make me over-think life. I just felt bad. I dunno, maybe it was because earlier in the day I did some reading about Trump destroying some Art Deco art, while demolishing the Bonwit Teller building to build Trump Tower. It was an offensive move then, and as far as I am concerned, it's outrageous even now! Art Deco just happens to be my favorite style of anything, from Art to table linens, to architecture. I have lots of it around my home, so I found it especially disgusting that he is also tearing out some Art Deco design in the White House. The Lincoln bathroom is decorated in Art Deco decor. It was designed by Harry Truman, during the time of his own renovations of the White House. Trump's taste is pretty much best described as Nouveau Tacky. So, how does all of this apply to a damaged shopping cart? Well, I see design. I see faces. My mind and my eyes tend to see in emotions. Personally, I thank God for it, because it keeps me in touch with my empathic side, otherwise, I think I might have given up altogether by now. Some days I just walk around numb!

A Woman Appeared To Me

A few days ago, I stepped onto the porch, to fetch the mail, when I noticed this beautiful moth resting on the support beam that is closest to the mailbox. It was so tiny, less than the size of a dime, that I am surprised that I actually saw it. But there it was, the little spot of absolute beauty. Of all the moths and butterflies I have photographed, this one, the Wavy-lined Emerald moth, is certainly one of the most unique, and photogenic. The shade of green is breathtaking, and the white lines and the fringe remind me of a dress from the Art Deco era. The little winged friend stayed for a couple days, but by yesterday it was gone. Its made me a little sad, because I enjoyed meeting it, and learning about what its about, but I suppose it was ready to off and enjoy autumn. The life span of butterflies and moths is so short, but that amazing creature was lucky enough to live it's whole life in autumn. I think I am, perhaps, a bit jealous, but also happy that I met a little bit of autumn magic this week.

Art Like A Falling Yellow Leaf

The Orinda Theater, which I spoke about in a previous post, is a gorgeous independent movie house, which opened on December 27th, 1949. Well past the age of the Art Deco movement, yet all through the theater are window panels and architectural lines, reminiscent of that earlier era of design! That theater is fabulous, and I will be doing a more in-depth posting about it at a later date, because I love supporting little individual gems, such as single movie houses, but for now, just gaze at that gorgeous window panel.

I snapped this photo when Alan and I were at the Orinda the other night, to see, Beetlejuice! Look at that panel, isn't it absolutely enchanting? That style just mesmerizes me, and it doesn't hurt that it somewhat resembles a falling yellow autumn leaf! Maybe its my love of autumn, the way it reminds me of the art deco movement, or vise versa. I'm not sure, but I think as I travel along during this vacation, I might see how many more art deco designs I can find to admire, while I'm searching out those falling yellow leaves!

I'll find autumn in anything I guess!
