Okay, I have kinda found my bravery when it comes to spiders, so now I need to work on my inability to visit little stores and shops out here in the valley. For some reason I have shied away from checking out what kind of things are most popular in the quirky little shops. Almost to the point of it being a phobia! What the hell is that about? I know... I'm a weirdo, it's just that everything out here is so foreign to me. The little delta shops, and seeing weirdness everywhere, like the constant red light runners. I dunno, I know bait is a big deal here, so is jerky, but I am betting there are other cool products to be had. I passed a place a while back that advertised "gizzards" for sale. I wonder if they were for bait or for Sunday dinner? Hmmm... I have NO IDEA! I guess it's time to check it out!

Cannery Row

 

Yep, that's John Steinbeck with a seagull on his head. The statue is in Monterey, California, in the Cannery Row district of the town. I photographed this duo, October 17th, 2018, but this is the first time posting it on my blog... I think. I may have posted it previously, but not in this context. The context I am referring to here, is working with one photograph, different styles, such as black and white, color and sepia. In this case I liked the black and white style a lot more than the others. Steinbeck looks more realistic, just weathered. Like an old man sitting very still with a bird on his head, but the color version gives all of the photograph's secrets away. The sepia was nice, but made the picture feel depressing somehow, rather than quirky. I think I have would rather not dwell too much in sad images. I am still learning to not be stressed out constantly and it's getting better, so why mess with things? Right? The last couple weeks have felt like they were a couple weeks, with is a strange feeling in and of itself. It's almost as if time is righting itself.

One Photo, Two Versions...

A little over 10 years ago, I spotted this in a yard in Berkeley. I was just out doing errands, and looking for a parking place. The parking sucks in Berkeley, but sometimes I am thankful for that irritation because you can happen upon the most interesting things on your travels around town, and your quests for a parking place.

I don't know why, but I LOVE this planter/yard ornament! The first time around the block I saw it, and it just struck a cord. The second time around the block, I got a better look, and kinda felt a weird draw to it! The third time around, I gave up, parked the car, and got my camera out. I tried to be discreet, and not make the homeowner nervous, but I knew I couldn't go home that day, without photographing it! 

I am still not sure why I find it so intriguing, but I do!
