Welcome To Spring

“Clean air; bird song; fresh flowers;
and the leaves unfurling on the twigs.”
~Pierre D'Alverne

A little later today we say goodnight to winter. I am a bit blue about that fact because I enjoy the dark rainy day, I like when the wind blows so hard that it makes spooky noises in the house. I like watching old black and white monster movies, because being scared shouldn't be held to autumn exclusively. But as I sit here mourning winter, I realize that I also enjoy the warmer summer days. My arthritis really enjoys it! And I adore Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. Every single flavor! Which I tend to crave this time of year. In autumn, its candy corn, in winter, Ghiradelli chocolate. Summer finds me crazy for old fashioned candy, like Whoppers and Mounds bars. It's all good, but I just bought a 4lb bag of Jelly Belly for the season. It helps me deal with Trump bullshit, but I will save all that for another day.

Round Robin Challenge: That's Odd!

"Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time."

~Steven Wright

RRC: That's Odd

Well, it is! :) And kinda cool to! You see, Alan and I were sitting in traffic, in downtown San Francisco, last Wednesday, and it wasn't it usual jam-packed traffic, it was jam-packed traffic on steroids! No kidding, the traffic since the opening of the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge, has been nothing short of horrendous! No one is really sure why the traffic has gotten so much worse in the last few days, but speculation is that folks are either being super careful crossing the new span, causing the back-ups, or the commuters are too busy driving slow to get a good look at the new Oakland side of the bridge. Either way... it's ODD! I am going to do an in depth post about the new span, complete with brand new pictures, next week! So be sure to stay tuned to Ellipsis for that! But for now, I wanted to show off the photo above. That's my little blue car you see in the picture. I tried to take the photo so I couldn't be seen, but I wasn't completely successful, so I wonder, is that considered a "selfie?"

Republican Oddities...

Who better to have their portrait done in jelly beans than Ronald Reagan? Like me, he had a sweet tooth that went straight to his soul, and jelly beans just happened to be his sweet tooth weakness! And I happen to know that President Reagan's favorite brand of Jelly Beans was Jelly Belly, jelly beans! I was working as an 800 Operator in the 1980's, and one of the corporate clients I was an operator for was the Jelly Belly company! One day, true story... my hand to GOD... I took an order for 800 lbs. of assorted Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, and one desktop dispenser, to be mailed to the White House Attn. Mail Processing Room at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue! That was before all mail and special packages were moved to a special processing center on the other side of Washington D.C.! 9/11 changed everything, including where jelly beans get sent!

I took both photos in February of 2005, at the Jelly Belly Jelly Bean Factory, in Fairfield, in Marin County. The governor at the time was non other than old GAS himself Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger! Blech! But the Jelly Belly factory saw fit to honor him in jelly beans, so I took a photo of the two republicans for nostalgia. LOL. It serves to remind me that nothing BAD can possibly last forever... right? LOL. I must get back up to the factory again soon, I am sure they have honored our current governor, Jerry Brown, in jelly beans as well! Only that portrait will remind me that nothing should be taken for granted, so appreciate Jerry Brown while we have him in office!

I bet you never thought Jelly Beans could be so profound!

I bet I know what you're thinking... you're thinking...That's Odd!

Round Robin Challenge: Variety Show

"Variety is the spice of life, that which gives it all it's flavor."

-William Cowper

Our latest Round Robin Challenge is all about variety, and comes to us by Nancy, who authors the journal, "Nancy Luvs Pics." I liked doing this challenge a lot. The neat thing about the challenges is that I am always learning something new with them. With this challenge, I began to think in terms of photographing things going together as opposed to trying to keep my pictures simple, as with one main subject. I came up with little "ingredients" in my photos, kind of like trying different flavors to make the perfect recipe. I gave myself the assignment to come up some natural variety, as well as a still life.

I think I like the end result...

Have you ever seen a butterfly feeder?
L-R Julia, Swallowtail and Great Southern White

A Variety of Tulips

Are you inspired to join the challenge? You are certainly invited to do so. All you need is a camera, and a blog or journal to post your entry. The Round Robin Challenges are open to everyone. The more the merrier. :) You can find out all the information you need to know to play this challenge by clicking here. This challenge will be open for one week, but our next challenge will be announced this Sunday, April 20th. Be sure to visit all the Robins and leave them your support. Just click the links below.

Space Madness

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending."

-Maria Robinson

Have you been following the case of the NASA astronaut, gone wacky, over a fellow astronaut? It seems to be in every news cast I watch, as if no one has ever gone wacky over a guy before. Granted, you don't often think of an actual rocket scientist engaging in such behavior, but it just goes to show you...we are all human, but some folks are saying, "This will jeopardize the whole space program." Now I ask you, do you believe this incident will bring down the space program? I have to be honest, as much as I am curious about what happened to make this lady snap, I don't think the space program needs to be scrapped over it, however, there are a lot of questions that need to be asked.

"They all think I am crazy, but I know better. It is not I who are crazy, it is I who am MAD." -Ren Hoek

I suppose we will find out a lot about the whole mess, as the days go by, but in the mean time, I think a lot of insight about ourselves can be found by taking the quizzes at Blogthings, and heck, just by doing so, we might fend off our own case of "Space Madness" that Ren Hoek warned us about, on the Ren And Stimpy show. Yes, the key to mental stability, and holding off, "Space Madness," is to take quizzes and watch old episodes of Ren And Stimpy. And eat lots and lots of chocolate...often. And oh yeah...wearing adult diapers on long car rides.

Here are two very timely quizzes...take two of these...and call me in the morning!

What Flavor Jelly Bean Are You?

Are You A Sociopath?

Be sure to share your results with us in the comment thread for this entry! :)
