What Is The Name Of Your Dream?

"What is the name of your dream? A lovely wooden cottage in the middle of a forest? Or walking in an endless autumn path? What is the name of your dream? Don't give a name, always give a list! Fill yourself with dreams because dream is the path to reality!"

~Mehmet Murat ildean

I love earth tones. My living room is decorated in browns and orange and rust colors, with a splash of deep blue here and there to catch the eye, and that is what happened when I saw these blue/purple flowers. I found myself almost fixated. That gorgeous color, bursting from some deep brown, crumbled leaves, made the whole scene come alive, and made me hungry for Blueberry Cobbler, which just might have to be the next autumn yumminess I make! I love baking in autumn! Oh well, lets face it, I love everything in autumn! There I go again... drooling over autumn! LOL. To me, autumn and all that comes with it, are just one long dream state, and I would give anything if I could just go on sleeping.

Love Takes Work

"Love... a wildly misunderstood, although highly desirable malfunction of the heart which weakens the brain,
causes eyes to sparkle, cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise
 and the lips to pucker."

~Unknown

Yep, apparently "Unknown" has been in love at least once! And yes, I do know we have a few days to go before Valentine's Day, but I am planning to do a lot of photos this week surrounding the holiday. I need more in my archives than pictures of leaves. Although, if there could be someway to incorporate the two, that would probably be the best of both worlds. I do a lot better with earth tones than I do with pastels.

Not loving the pastels.
But totally loving the challenge!

The Dry Rain...

"The autumn leaves blew over the moonlit pavement in such a way as to make the girl who was moving there seem fixed to a sliding walk, letting the motion of the wind and the leaves carry her forward. The trees overhead made a great sound of letting down their dry rain."

~Ray Bradbury
Fahrenheit 451

Not a lot of words for this post, just leaves. I can see that we are coming to the end of autumn, as the few leaves left here and there are taking on the earthier tones of brown and deep purple. But my eye still searches for the life amongst the dying. At the same time, I am happy with the changing hues, as it is the only way to get to next Autumn, and I am already planning my leaf project for next year!

Is this all it takes to make me happy?

Um.. Yeah... it is!

A Photo A Day For 6 Months: Day 135~ The First Full Day Of Autumn

"Autumn that year painted the countryside in vivid shades of scarlet, saffron and russet, and the days were clear and crisp under harvest skies."

~Sharon Kay Penman, Time And Chance

Okay, now I can post a new autumn photo every day, and no one can accuse me of trying to rush the year along! LOL. Truth is, I know I begin to miss autumn the day after Christmas each year. It's that week, between Christmas and New Years, that I begin to see the colors of autumn fading away. I don't mind winter, it holds some wonderful opportunities for a photo bug like me, but the smell of fireplaces, and the taste of apple cider and the delicious seasonal feasts of Pear and Havarti sandwiches, with a mug of freshly made French Onion soup, makes those short beautiful 90 or so days feel like a big warm hug. No other season comes close to giving me a sense of well being quite like autumn does.

"Squeeze your eyes closed, as tight as you can, and think of all your favorite autumns, crisp and perfect, all bound up together like a stack of cards. That is what it is like, the awful, wonderful brightness of fairy colors. Try to smell the hard, pale wood sending up sharp, green smoke into the afternoon. To feel the mellow, golden sun on your skin, more gentle and cozier and more golden than ever the light of your favorite reading nook at the close of the day."

~Catherynne M. Valente, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own Making

And now the beautiful "Amas Veritas" from the movie Practical Magic...

If autumn had a theme song, I believe it would be Amas Veritas.

:)

Now, pop over to my friend JR's blog and say Hi. He is awesome, he always makes me smile. :)

EMPS #147: Earth Tones

Moss Beach, California, October 24th, 2011

That time of year thou may'st in me behold,
When yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.

-William Shakespeare, Sonnet LXXIII
