Wink Baby Wink

"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics, is that you end up being governed by your inferiors."

-Plato

On Halloween night, at Starbuck's, I saw witches, and a lot of little cowboys, and Snow Whites, but by far my favorite Halloween costume had to be the lady dressed as vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin. She had the character down pat. She had a sash that said "Caribou Barbie" and various political buttons that pretty much explained it all. My personal favorite was the one that said, "Ask Me What The Bush Doctrine Is." Need I say more? Well, probably not, but I will anyway. See, here's the thing. The Halloween costume this lady wore was scarier then any ghoulish, bloody, Frankenstein-ish getup anyone could possibly come up with, because it was a pretty accurate depiction of someone who could very well be the next V.P. of the United States. Sigh. And that is the scariest thought of all.

It shocks me that there is still a percentage of folks who haven't made up their minds about who to vote for, even as we are just two days away from voting. It also shocks me that John McCain can run a campaign that basically played out as an object lesson in how not to run a campaign, and still be doing as well as he is in the polls. Choosing Sarah Palin was probably the worst choice he could have made. It has been LOL funny at times, watching her try to be vice presidential material. It has been amusing to watch the campaign implode from within, and I ask you, if you never hear from "Joe The Plumber" ever again, will you be disappointed? Good Lord, if it weren't all so absurd... it would be, well, scary. Wink Wink.

Opinions, Opinions...

You all know how I feel at this point, but truly, I want to know how you feel before we go to the polls. If you think I am dead wrong... tell me. If you think I am absolutely right... tell me that. If you are still unsure who to vote for, tell me why you still can't decide. What is your number one concern, whether or not you have already made your mind up. Speak up. Tell me what's on your mind!

I had asked someone I know who they were voting for and they said "undecided". When I asked HOW she could be undecided, her response was "I know WHO I'm voting for, I just don't want to argue it with anyone so saying undecided is easier." Makes you wonder if that is what others are doing too.

As for myself, I'm voting for Obama. The thought of McCain/Palin is a scary thought for me. I'm tired of war - never approved of that as an option except for self defense. Our current war was NOT self defense or even related to the 9-11 terrorist act. Bush had us go in claiming Iraq had weapons of MASS destruction. McCain has supported and voted with Bush over NINTY percent of the time and now he says he's offering us change from Bush?! Huh?

So, there you have a small reason of who/why I'm voting the way I am. There are many more reasons.

I'd love to hear who people are voting for and why. Hopefully they can express their opinions in a recepectable way - as there is no need to be nasty about other's opinions. And Carly, I know you would be nothing but recepectful of differing opinions.

Who to vote for? I'm still completely undecided. The McCain/Palin ticket is a joke to me, but there's something beneath Obama's well-spoken veneer that I don't trust. I've considered not voting at all, because I honestly don't believe either candidate deserves my vote. Both candidates have enormous negatives against them, and only a handful of positives to balance them out. Obama has two or three more positives in my eyes right now, but...screw it, I may vote Libertarian!

Honestly, I am concerned about having a Democratic president with a Democratically-controlled Congress. I think there should always be a balance between the two in order for our government to work. Otherwise, it turns into a dictatorship, and we've already had 8 years of that.

Well said Dave!

Actually, chosing to not vote is an acceptable option as far as I am concerned, and it is a vote, if you think about it. No one should feel like they have to use their right to vote, to vote for the lessor of two evils. I am fortunate to be able to say that I have completely believed in and trusted in the person, or people, I have voted for. And don't let anyone ever tell you that if you don't vote, you can't complain. Freedom of Speech gives you the right to speak your mind, whether or not you chose to tell the world if you voted or not!

As an arch-conservative Libertarian, there is no way I can bring myself to vote for Senator Obama. Simply put, he is far too liberal. Further, while he has shown good judgment in his choice of foreign policy advisers, those he has advising him on domestic policy, particularly economic policy, are so far to the left of center that most legislative initiatives, even if passed by a Democrat majority in Congress, will surely result in significant legal challenges that we, the people, can ill afford to wait out. Salvaging the economic situation will require a moderate solution, not a liberal one.

Sadly, the prospect of Governor Palin being only a heartbeat away from the presidency is too horrible to contemplate. Sorry, McCain Republicans, but you blew it with your arrogance and political greed by endorsing Palin as your candidate for Vice-President. At least, when it comes to my vote it did.

I have no love nor even tolerance for Ralph Nader.

I know nothing about the Libertarian candidate this year but can say in my defense that usually they, as a class, are simply too liberal to be considered.

Communist Party of America? They haven't had an even remotely viable candidate since Gus Hall in the 60's. Not that I'd ever have voted for him. Still, it says something that they haven't posted a candidate worthy of consideration for over 40 years.

Oh well. I suppose it will once again be a write-in for "None Of The Above". Damn, that's been a popular choice for the past few years...

What a waste.

Hi Wil

"None of the above" is a valid choice, one I can certainly understand and personally contemplated until Obama chose Biden. Sorry darling Wil, LIBERAL/DEMOCRAT/FEMI-NAZI here! LOL. Things can't get too liberal for me, after the last eight years. Although, believe it or not, I wouldn't mind seeing things even out a little more, after all, we are all AMERICANS no matter if we live in a small town or large city. Despite what Sarah Palin thinks. I can keep an open mind... you know?

I'm voting for the guy who is smart, steady and capable, who goes out and gets the advice of experts before crafting his policy--and explaining it clearly to voters, who believes in diplomacy over sabre-rattling, who doesn't put the short-term gain of the rich over the long-term needs of the whole country, who doesn't distort his opponent's policies beyond all recognition, who doesn't condone name-calling, who doesn't exploit casual acquaintances to try to prove something nefarious, who preaches hope and change and unity instead of fear and greed and division. I'm voting for the guy that too many people fear for the most nonsensical of reasons, mostly based on lies. I'm voting for Barack Obama.
