RRC: About The Weather

"Weather is a great metaphor for life... sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, and there is nothing much you can do about it but carry an umbrella."

RRC: About The Weather
Suggested by Steven and Julie

I wish I had something better for the challenge this time around, but alas I don't. The weather has been very strange in the Bay Area, as you might know from my occasional rantings about it. I don't remember a summer so cold! It makes me wonder what the winter has in store for us. Sigh. Every single day has had the same pattern, cold/foggy/drizzly in the morning, only to burn off to a fairly decent/sunny afternoon, only to return to fog and clouds just before night fall. Spooky cold for AUGUST!

Like I said, I don't really have much to show you, but I do think my sunflowers tell the tale pretty accurately. The "Before" photo was taken Thursday afternoon, and the "After" was taken Friday morning.

BEFORE...

AFTER...

Both photos were taken less then 24 hours apart, notice the new growth of the sunflower at the bottom. It grew at least 3 inches overnight. The sunflower to the left is much closer to opening. I love watching sunflowers grow, they are such interesting flowers!

Now that you have seen my entry, go take a jog around the land and visit the other participating Robins!

Round Robin Photo Blog (Links will be available on Saturday, sometime after midnight)

And don't forget to check back on Sunday, to learn the topic of our next challenge!

Hi Carly,
Beautiful shots of your Sunflowers. You can have some of our heat and humidity, it's been in the high 90's all week with heat advisory's. Have a great day!

Hi Carly, I like your thought process on using the sunflowers to illustrate the weather, very clever and different :)

have a great weekend.

Beautiful sunflowers--despite the weather. You're right-they tell the story of the heat!

Hi Carly,
It really is too bad that June gloom is still going on in August in California...
The sunflowers shots are a good picture of the difference between the dullness of the gloom and the clarity that the light brings in...

That's a lot of growth for overnight! I guess it proves that even though summer is cooler this year, it's still plenty warm and sunny for sunflowers. :-)

Pretty sunflowers! you want to trade my weather right now Carly? we're having rain but usually they don't stay too long then it's all sunny again. The hottest we had were around 98 F, and it's almost all year long.

There was a Doctor Who episode earlier this year in which the Doctor and Amy spend a few days with Vincent Van Gogh. The morning after their arrival, The Doctor wakes Vincent up and leads him outside where she has decorated his yard with dozens of sunflowers. He says that they're not his favorite flower, "always hovering between life and death." The real Van Gogh did a whole series of pictures of sunflowers, mostly the same ones in the same vase. I always thought they looked too orange, dark and dying. But I see now that there's another kind of sunflowers than the ones I know, an orange kind! :)
