Round Robin Challenge: Black and White Landscape

"Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography."

-George Eastman

Marie, who authors the blog, Photographs and Memories Too, submitted the challenge, "Black and White Landscape, during out recent submission round up. I love photographing subjects in black and white, but I had a bit of trouble with taking it on this time around. See, I have been fighting a nasty head cold for about a week. I am winning for the most part, but the body aches and lack of concentration have been a distraction, but when have I ever let a little cold get me down? So, I bundled up, and went to Tilden park and took a few new photographs. I wasn't very pleased with the results, so I also revisited some photos from my archive, which I had taken in color mode, and worked a little Photoshop magic on them, transforming them into black and white.

As I said, I love doing black and white photography, but it seems I don't take many landscape photos in this mode. I tend to do portraits in black and white almost exclusively, so I really enjoyed putting myself to the test and expanding how I think about my photography. I need a lot more practice when it comes to landscapes, and with using the black and white settings. I think I might actually give myself a personal challenge to post one full week in black and white. That might be a great way to start the New Year, by giving myself a reasonable goal. Yes, it's a plan. Thank you Marie, for the inspiration. :)

Cool! Fog, mist and haze! Black and white does that so well. I like the sweep of the land in the first one. Little trees.

Yes, I had trouble too for various reasons. But you did well...I especially liked the 3rd and 5th!

They look quite nice, but I see them better in colors, lol ! Fortunately we can choose (by cheating only a little...)

Oh. Carly. These are gorgeous! I love the shot looking up at the evergreen in the mist, and the other, spookier tree two shots below that, and especially, especially, the cyclist on the tree-lined road. Wonderful! I look forward to your black and white week! And I'm starting to think my two-week-catch-up pattern is for the birds. It will be much better to read your posts when you write them.

I love the last shot with the bike.

I absolutely love the trees, too. But all the shots were beautiful. Thanks for the kind words you left on my blog. I love to photograph, photograph, photograph and I am going to enjoy seeing the next Photo Challenge, and going back and looking at the others. Nekked Lizards

All of these are great, but I love that big old solitary tree. Beautiful!

I love the one where the tree's make a tunnel over the road!!!!
I got some requests to enlargen mine, which I have done, but I think it is better smaller, for some reason, probablly just me though.
I'm really excited to continue to play each week!

Great photos as usual, Carly. Looks like you've got a little Ansel Adams in you. This sounds like a great idea for a Round Robin Challenge. I'll have to check out the other submissions.

Hi Carly! I revisited some color shots too, to see how they would translate into b&w. I agree that it makes you look at your photography in a different light. You got some great results from this challenge - bravo!!
