The Point

"The truth is, I can choose to view tough times as growing times, I can choose to see aging as seasoning and I can choose to focus on whatever good there is to be found in living.
I choose. After all, it's my point of view."

~Steve Goodier

I have passed this sign in San Francisco, which sits at the entrance to Fort Point, at the Golden Gate Bridge, and I never noticed how kinda silly it is. FORT POINT... has a little sign with a little arrow that... POINTS to FORT POINT.

Get my point?

Art About Town: San Francisco "Sea Change"

"Sea Change"
By Artist, Mark di Suvero
San Francisco, California
October 30th, 2013

“All worthy work is open to interpretations the author did not intend. Art isn't your pet -- it's your kid. It grows up and talks back to you.”

~Joss Whedon

I have posted a lot of pieces by this artist this year... much to my own personal delight! Mark di Suvero is everywhere about San Francisco, or should I say, his art is everywhere! From Pax Jerusalem, which sits in front of the Legion of Honor museum, to the 10 pieces along Crissy Field, not to mention this sculpture near AT&T Park, his influence is a big part of the public art in the city. Personally, I have grown to love his art very much, and I am now able to see one of his sculptures, and instantly know it's by him! I haven't always been a fan of Abstract Expressionism sculpture, my very favorite sculpture is The Kiss, by Rodin, but the thing that is growing on me about Marc di Suvero's work is the way it provokes me to consider stepping out of the usual zone of what I call beautiful. His sculptures have definitely had an effect on my photography, in terms of angles and light. He inspires me! I want to get better with my photography, and I enjoy learning new things by appreciating others approach to their art! And that's what art is all about... right?

Art About Town: San Francisco; Sculptures On Crissy Field

He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.

~St. Francis Of Assisi

I was back at Crissy Field a couple weeks ago, cameras by my side, and in my hands obviously, to capture the amazing 8 piece Abstract expressionist sculpture series by artist Mark di Suvero, that was placed along the green through a partnership of SFMOMA, the National Park Service and the Golden Gate Parks Conservancy. The sculptures will be featured at Crissy Field until late spring of 2014 as part of the SFMOMA's Art On The Go program, while the museum undergoes a 3 year expansion project. I am looking forward to seeing more art around town as time progresses.

Personally speaking, I love, love, love seeing the sculptures along Crissy Field. I am a huge fan of Public Art, and this has been among my favorites of this year to photograph! With the gorgeous views of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge as their background, it has brought a different feel to the sculptures that one couldn't experience if they were locked inside a room, or in a simple garden setting. But the community surrounding Crissy Field isn't so happy about their presence. But we won't focus on that right now. No, let's just enjoy the sculptures, and the way they make us feel!

My photos really don't do them justice. You must visit and see them for yourself!

Photographing and appreciating Public Art is just about the best way I know of to spend a summer day!

Blue Heron At Crissy Field

"Birds know themselves not to be at the center of anything, but at the margins of everything. The end of the map. We only live where someones horizon sweeps someone else's. We are only noticed on the edge of things; but on the edge of things, we notice much."

~Gregory Maguire, Out of Oz

I wish I could have done better with this photo, but I was just so in awe of this Blue Heron that I wasn't ask focused as I should have been with the camera. Pun intended. Sometimes you have to miss really good moments, in order to capture the scene in front of you. Sometimes it's better to just enjoy the moment as and accept the memory rather than trying to make the moment immortal. It's always a split second decision. Good. Bad. Or otherwise. Over all I am happy with the photo as is. But the moment... it was a moment of unbelievable beauty.

Art About Town: San Francisco: The 8 Sculptures Of Crissy Field; A Preview Of An Exhibit

"Huru" by Mark di Suvero. Crissy Field, San Francisco

"You must forget all your theories, all your ideas before the subject. What part of these is really your own will be expressed in the expression of the emotion awakened in you by the subject."

~Henri Matisse

On my visit to Crissy Field last week, I was delighted to see that there is a new public art exhibit of 8 sculptures by artist Mark di Suvero. The first sculpture I ever saw by this artist was Pax Jerusalem which stands on the grounds of the Legion of Honor. I have always enjoyed that sculpture, so the minute I saw the exhibit of 8 on Crissy Field, I knew instantly who the artist was! I was only able to take a few pictures the other day, but this photo certainly does not do the piece justice, so I am hoping to get back to the city next week to photograph each of them! I am looking forward to the walk between them, and learning the background of each one! While I am in San Francisco, there is another sculpture by the artist located near AT&T park so I think I will make my visit all about the art and see how many sculptures I can photograph in one day! It will be a sculpture safari! LOL. Wish me luck!

Meet Ambrose The Dragon Kite

"Imagination is the highest kite one can fly."

~Lauren Bacall

Yesterday, Alan suggested we go have a little fun in San Francisco. It's always fun going on a date with Alan, so of course I said YES! After a brief debate about what we could do in the city, we decided it would be fun to grab the kites and head for Crissy Field. Along the way we stopped for a sandwich to take to Golden Gate park. By the time we got out to the marina, it was about 1:00 PM and it was perfect conditions outside for flying a kite! It's been super windy in the Bay Area the last couple days, and a bit on the chilly side, but you couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. And the sight of our new dragon... Ambrose... was just the bit of whimsy we both needed! And of course the sight of the Golden Gate bridge right there... well... it never ceases to make me happy!

We had so much fun, I think this is going to be a regular activity for us this summer! There are a lot of parks and beaches to visit, maybe next time I will bring our other kite, a cow named Wendy! LOL.

Isn't she pretty? ;)

I will be posting more photos, in the next few days, of our fun this week in San Francisco! Stay Tuned! :)
